Final from Champion Window Field in Floence, Ky.

The was the first game of a doubleheader and if the second [Ryle v/s East Central (IN)] one ends up anything like the first, it should be really exciting.

I guess it paid off, but I'd love to know the Lawrenceburg coach's reasoning as to why he did not bunt over the runners at 1B & 2B with no outs in the bottom of the 7th. Yep, the batter hit a walk-off single to win it, but he could just have easily hit into a DP.

Boone had sacks full with no outs one inning and only got in one run and that came via a passed ball (or wild pitch, I don't recall). Probably the difference in the game.

It's called confidence in your hitter! The bunt while being very effective of course and a basic baseball fundamental weapon also doesn't help a hitter's confidence. It's good to see a high school coach let a kid swing away and not being automatic like most coaches.

A successful bunt moves the runners 100% of the time. Hitting away may yeild a 30 to 40 % success rate. A coach is not there to build one particular hitters confidence in that situation, he is there to help his TEAM win.

The reason it's "automatic like most coaches" is because it's the way baseball is supposed to be played. That is a bunt situation 99% of the time (maybe more) and I don't care if you have Maile, Farris, or Alex Rodriquez up to the plate. As far as "building confidence," it's a shame that you don't feel that a player who lays down a bunt to move his TEAMmates over to better enable his TEAM to win wouldn't build confidence. It sure would with my son. You want to talk about destroying some kid's confidence? How about if that young man hits into a DP? Oh well, I guess it's a moot point since he had a nice hit to win the game. I just found it interesting that the coach elected to swing away there.
