Theoldguy Posted April 20, 2008 Posted April 20, 2008 CovCath 6 NewCath 1 in the Doc Morris Wooden Bat Tourney, or with pitching like this, who needs runs, or do you walk him, or pitch to him, either way you lose! Will post more on this game after the Championship game at Champion Window Field which as of five minutes ago, is still on for today.

Theoldguy Posted April 21, 2008 Author Posted April 21, 2008 The CovCath Good: Another outstanding effort by a CovCath pitcher as junior Pat Krumme goes a complete 7 innings of 3 hit baseball to record the victory. That's seventeen innings of 1 run baseball in the first three game of the Doc Morris Wooden Bat Tournament. Luke Maile (yea but you are going to love this) in his first at bat while leading off Luke hits a 1-0 count over the left center field fence (355 #4) for a HR giving CovCath a 1-0 lead. In his second at bat and with two out in the top of the third inning on a 3-1 count he hits his second HR of the game (365 #5) over dead center field to give CovCath a 2-0 lead. In the fifth inning NCC gets him to hit into a 4-3 put out. With the score now 2-1 in the top of the seventh, Nutini doubles and VanSant gets on base via E-9, Nutini to third. Holocher then goes deep enough to SF Nutini home for now a 3-1 CovCath lead. Senior Niehaus makes the NCC pitcher work hard by fouling off pitch after pitch (8 total) and then get a single to move VanSant to third. Runners on first and third and 1 out. Then on a botched bunt attempt VanSant get put out and Klein walks and up steps Maile, with two outs and men on first and second. Well the NCC coach gives Maile first by internationally walking him (which was a good move I guess) but LaFever then walks also to force Niehaus in (4-1 CovCath) and then Darner hits a rope to knock in the Colonels final two runs. Ryan Darner get only 1 hit but breaks the game open with it to drive in 2 runs to give Krumme a five run cushion going into the bottom of the seventh. Brandon Nutini also had a great day at the plate by going 2 for three and leading off the seventh inning with a double to start the beginning of the end for NCC. Nutini also made a real nice catch of a hard hit ball in the fifth inning to end that inning. The CovCath bad; A botched bunt attempt in the top of the seventh. Our young batters will learn that if you are going to be playing for Coach Krumps you had better learn to bunt. BTW I think the ball was almost unbuntable as the NCC pitcher threw that pitch in almost the same spot that Krumme did to a NCC batter in the bottom of the sixth to get a NCC runner trying to do a squeeze play. CovCath pitching; Pat Krumme 7 complete innings 90 pitches 7 K's 3 walks 2 of which were intentional 3 hits 1 run 1 earned run CovCath hitters; 3 AB 3 runs scored 2 hits 2 HR's (#4 & #5) 1 walk int and 2 rbi's' Maile 4 AB and 1 walk and 1 rbi LaFever 4 AB 1 hit and 2 rbi's Darner 3 AB and 1 walk Isler 3 AB 2 hits double and 1 run scored Nutini 3 AB 1 hit and reached base via E-9 VanSant 2 AB 1 SF and 1 rbi Holocher 3 AB 1 hit and 1 run scored Niehaus 2 AB 1 walk and 1 run scored Klein
