Mercer's Ethan Ashford threw a perfect game, striking out 12.

Mercer was also hot at the plate with Josh Carey belting a 3-run homerun in the third inning and Zeke Edwards hitting a 2-run homerun in the third inning.

Mercer has great pitching. Matthew Robertson and Ethan Ashford are both outstanding. Thad Claunch and Josh Carey are very good also, and they have 3-4 other guys that can give good spot work but are young.

 

Mercer's weakness is defense. They don't field the ball well. It was their Achille's last year. Poor defense cost them the regional championship. Hopefully that will not be the case this year.
