High School Hall Of Fame.....

Featured Replies

Most High Schools do have a Hall of Fame in most sports, should School Board Members be a part of the selection as it is a School function,my way of thinking this should be very Clean Vote and is one of the most Honored things a player can have bestowed up on them ,I do think every school should honor their own in such a way that its a Legit Vote and honest vote as possible and some how keep it that way.. Whats your thinking on such an Honor......:thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :ylsuper:

I would say that the school board should be involved, but I am not sure the school board should be the deciding factor to determine in an alumni is inducted into a Hall of Fame. I would say the school board should select a committee to decide the inductees and then the board should rubber stamp the committee's recommendations.

I say this because school boards change, and some members may not be alumni or avid fans of that school prior to be placed on a school board. Such as, a person moving into a school district, then getting involved in that school district, and ultimately being elected to a school board position. But, the life long fans of a school stay the same, for the most part.

So, to make a committee of people who have followed the program for many years, and know the school's history intimatly would be the best option in my mind. Most, if not all schools, have people who have been around the program for many years. And those people should be the ones who help decide who in enshrined into a Hall of Fame. If you take a group of people who have watched, say football at school "A" for 40 years, and ask them to select people who should be inducted into school "A's" Football Hall of Fame, those people will be able to come up with names and stats that most people will not know, or remember, and will be able to give reasons for that person being in the Hall of Fame. Most school board members will not be able to do that. Plus, it will give those members of the committee a feeling of ownership, and increase community support and involvement, increasing pride in the program. Win/win situation.
