First Round - 7th Region Tournament

 

The St. X Tigers won the first round of the 7th region tournament yesterday by defeating the Eastern Eagles 4 to 3.

 

Brian Erie had 2 well timed hits, one of which was a stand up triple, to give St. X a 2 to 0 lead in the first 2 innings. In the 6th inning, score tied and runners in scoring position, Eric Brewer made an unbelievable throw to home plate to Brian Erie who stopped the go ahead run and ended the Eagle’s run at a regional title. As if that wasn't enough for Eric, he came to the plate in the bottom of the 7th, one out already on the board, it looked like the game would go in to extra innings, but he would have no part of that, Eric jumped all over Dunaway's 2-2 pitch and drove it all the way to the outfield fence at UofL's Jim Patterson Field. Eric rounded all 4 bases for an uncontested IN-THE-PARK Home Run.

 

St. Xavier's Kyle Just, was retired after 2 and 1/3 innings and relief pitcher Cory Boughey came in and pitched possibly the best 5 innings of his young career and brought home the win for the Tigers.

 

Next up for the Tigers: The Bruins of Ballard High School, Wednesday afternoon, 3 pm, at the UofL Cardinals, Jim Patterson Field.
