Tates Creek scored 5 runs in the top of the 1st, but Lafayette came back to take a lead 6-5 after 4 innings. Tates Creek scored 2 in the 5th and 2 in the 6th and then held off Lafayette in the bottom of the 7th to get the win. The teams got the same number of hits, and Tates Creek won despite committing 6 errors to Lafayette's 1.

So what is the 43rd district looking like when it comes to the tournament?

Right now, the standings in the district are as follows:

 

1. Lexington Catholic 7-0

2. Dunbar 5-2

3. LCA 3-4

Tates Creek 3-4

5. Lafayette 0-8

 

The only district games left are scheduled for tonight: Lexington Catholic v. Tates Creek; Dunbar v. LCA.

 

As you can see, the only slots that remain to be decided are #3 and #4, but that's a huge deal in the 43d, since the teams in the 4 v. 5 game have to win two games in the toughest district in the state to get to the region, instead of just one.

 

Also, no one should be fooled by the "losing" district record of any of these teams. As I have posted before, even the teams with losing records in the 43d have winning records outside of the district. (For example, Tates Creek is 15-2 outside of the 43rd and Lafayette is 17-3 outside of the 43rd, with Tates Creek beating likely 42nd District winner Henry Clay twice and Lafayette splitting with them)

 

In the end, it is a guarantee that three very good high school baseball teams will be out of the playoffs when the 43rd District Tournament is over.
