Vaught's Views: Witten honored

Recommended Posts

The Danville senior has a strong start toward a possible Mr. Baseball campaign after being one of only two Kentuckians named to the Louisville Slugger High School Preseason All-American Team.

Witten was named as a multiple position player. The only other state player honored was Lexington Catholic outfielder Ben Revere. Both players were named to the first team.

Witten had an outstanding 2006 season when he hit .607 with 25 home runs and 65 RBIs. He was also 13-1 as a pitcher with a 1.78 earned-run average. In 782/3 innings, Witten struck out 127 and walked 18 for Danville's regional championship team

He also had a standout sophomore season when he hit 12 home runs, drove in 54 runs and batted .471. On the mound, he was 6-4 with a 2.22 ERA and struck out 88 in 66 innings.

Witten, who signed with Coastal Carolina in November, has 52 home runs and has knocked in 191 runs in his career. He's also struck out 291 batters and has a 27-8 record.

If he can continue to improve his numbers this season the way he has during his career, he'll have a chance to add numerous postseason honors to his huge preseason accolade he's already earned. :thumb:
