Despite the score, this was not necessarily a “clean” game by the Tigers. Mercer recovered an onside kick to start the game, scored and held Bardstown to three and out. It took Bardstown a bit of time to wake up. They got the lead back midway through the second period on a long punt return for a TD by KJ Stafford. Then Carson Riley and the passing attack got going with a couple TD passes, and Bardstown led 28-7 at half.

Bardstown was again a little flat coming out of the locker room, and after a turnover, a couple penalty-filled series, and allowing a punt return inside their 10, Mercer had pulled within 35-22 midway through the 3rd. The Tigers dominated thereafter, scoring 30 unanswered from that point.

Bardstown star tailback Sevyn Hamilton had been injured in the Owensboro Catholic game and did not play last night. The running game was perhaps a tad discombobulated, but Bardstown managed big numbers.

In the end, it was a big district win. Up next, Casey County visits for Tiger Homecoming.
