Ryle 8 Conner 5 (33rd District Finals)

Final!! What a game!!! The entire game everyone was on pins and needles. Both of these are really good. Deep pitching and very strong lineups. Ryle played without one of their top players as Roman Furuta was running the day prior just trying to keep his previously injured hamstring loose and heard something pop in it. While this is a huge loss for the Raiders they found a way to be productive through their lineup. This game was the TJ Schira show who was later named MVP of the Dirstrict Tournament.

Conner took the lead 1-0 in the top of the 3rd inning. Ryle immediately struck back in the bottom of the 3rd when TJ Schira hit a grand slam after the 3 previous batters (Cordrey, Flaherty, and Sawyer) reached on 2 singles and a walk. Ryle eventually scored 2 more runs in the inning making the score 6-1 and the end of the 3rd. Both teams scored in the 1 run each in the 4th inning making the score 7-2. The run scored by Ryle was another home run by TJ Schira. Conner then started making a lot of noise in the top of the 6th when they quickly scored  3 runs off relief pitcher Sam Eppley. So Ryle turned to the person having quite a game already TJ Schira who came in and fanned the flames of the Conner rally and got Ryle out of the inning giving up no further damage and leaving the score at 7-5. Ryle as they had done all day struck right back and scored 1 more run in the bottom of the 6th making the score 8-5 and then TJ shut down Conner in the top of 7th to give Ryle their first District title since 2019. 
Both teams move on to the 9th Region Tournament which will now start on Sunday May 21st due to some scheduling conflict with the Florence Y’alls Stadium which is where the 9th Region Tournament has been  held for quite some time. Times were announced at 10 am, 1 pm, 4 pm, and 7 pm. I look forward to a full day of excellent baseball this coming Sunday. Congrats to both teams for representing NKY and the 33rd District so well.

Pitching:

Caleb Mann started for Ryle allowing 2 runs over 4 innings while walking 4 and striking out 8. Sam Eppley pitched 1 inning allowing 3 runs with no walks and 2 strike outs. TJ Schira pitched 2 innings allowing no runs with 2 walks and 1 strike out. 

Hitting:

TJ Schira led the way going 2-3 with 2 home runs and getting 5 RBI’s. Dylan McIntyre went 2-3 and got 2 RBI’s. Landon Sawyer went 1-2 with 2 walks and scored twice. 
 

The District All-Tournament Team for Ryle was TJ Schira (MVP), Landon Sawyer, and Dylan McIntyre. Congrats to all 3 of these young men and to all the Ryle players for a great tournament.
