West Carter 52 Ashland 40

Featured Replies

The West Carter Lady Comets hit their free throws down the stretch, ending the game on a 12-2 run to get by Ashland last night 52-40. Erica Webb paced the Lady Comets with 20 points, 14 of which came in the first half. Kristen Burchett added 13 and Charla Burchett 12 for West who improved to 8-4 on the season.

Ashland was led by Kim Straight who had 17 points, 12 of which came in the second half (9 of them in the 3rd quarter). Ashland falls to 8-6 on the season.

Sounds like it was close until the end. West won by 12, and ended the game on a 12-2 run.

Is the region pretty balanced, with Russell leading the way? Is West a pretty good team? I know that for about a ten year run or so, they were the top dogs in Girls' basketball.

I think Russell is the favorite right now with about 6 or 7 schools fighting it out behind them. I think Rose Hill, West Carter, Raceland, East Carter, Rowan Co, Ashland and maybe even Fleming will make some noise (those are in no particular order and I have not seen Boyd play) down the stretch.

Rose Hill has 2 of the best players in the state.

West Carter is starting to hit the long shots and playing decent defense

Raceland has great potential with Seals, Vanderhoof and the Porters

East can score in bunches and really gets down and guards well

Rowan Co "uglies" you to death with Troy Ball...defense, defense, defense

Ashland is still pretty young, but they are gutsy

Fleming has a post player that is amazing (Kenley I think).

Pretty even, but I think Russell is (right now) the cream of the crop. Not to put a bullseye on Coach Kidwell or take anything away from anyone else, but this region is Russell's to lose!

Thanks, GoRadio. I appreciate you bringing me up to speed.

Can I take it from your screenname that you are a discjockey or announcer of some sort?

It's a pleasure to meet you, Tim. I am Bill Hornbuckle. Grew up in Ashland until six years ago, then moved to Oldham County.

Life is good here, but I'll always be an eastern Kentucky boy.

I wish your Comets and Raiders well.

Thanks Buckle. I remember you sent me a very nice message when we lost our son Titus back in the spring. Have a great evening and God Bless (I hope I can say that in this forum and it won't get moved to the Politics and Religion Forum).
