BluegrassPreps.com 6th Region Boys week 7 review

Featured Replies

The LIT is over and it caused some movement in the rankings - let's see what's up in the 6th Region:

1.  Jeffersontown (11-4)  The Chargers, after winning the South Oldham Holiday Classic, gave Western their first region loss of the season in the LIT,and then gave Ballard all they wanted, but lost in the QF.  The Vasser brothers (sr. Will 15.1ppg and so. Dre 13ppg) have been leading the way for the Chargers, but F Lavonte Harris, G Terrall Cleaves and W Xavier Price all chip-in, averaging around 10ppg.   They have the athleticism to give any team trouble.  J-town will have to prove that they deserve the top spot - hosting Western in a rematch of their LIT game on 1/18

2.  Western (15-3)  The Warriors, coming off a championship in the King of the Smokies in TN, finally lost to a 6th region opponent when J-town beat them in the 2nd round.  Jr. G Trent Hinkle leads the team in scoring at 14.3ppg, but Julius Edmonds and fr. Kaden Magwood are also main contributors (both 12ppg) on this deep and very athletic team.  They tend to suffocate opponents with their speed and length inside.  Next up for Western is the previously mentioned rematch @ J-town on 1/18

3.  PRP (12-4)  The Panthers, frankly, laid an egg in the LIT - squandering a 20 pt lead and losing to Fern Creek in the second round.  However, the resume is too strong to drop them very far.  PRP has an impressive 3-man attack with jr. F Keith Robinson - the MAC's MVP (18.2ppg), jr. PG Zee McCown (17.8ppg) and sr. C Vic Lado (14.6ppg).  Jr. G Greg Cole has also asserted himself lately, contributing at 10.6ppg and taking pressure off of McCown at the point. The Panthers struggle with lack of depth on the bench some games, but their starting 5 (6 when Dixon is healthy) can play with anyone.  PRP next host Southern on 1/19

4. Butler  (12-7) The Bears have continued the form they discovered during the Holiday's - making it all the way to the LIT final before losing to Male in a rematch game from earlier in the season.  Mershon Dickerson (17.7ppg), Julion Beard (12.2ppg), and Chavez Woods (12.4ppg) lead Butler in scoring.  The Bears travel to Manual for an interesting cross-region match-up on 1/18.

5. Doss (13-6)  The Dragons made it to the semis of the LIT but lost in a tight contest with Butler. The Dragons are lead by the strong duo of sr.'s Inslee Carroll (19.3ppg), Tony Moss (16.2ppg).  They have an experienced squad and will likely stay in the top 5 most of the season.  Next up for Doss is a home game with Valley on 1/18.

6. Iroquois (15-3)  The upstart Raiders lost to highly-ranked Ballard in the 2nd round of the LIT, but then got back on track with a big district win over DeSales in the consolation game. The Q is  paced by sr. Davion Burton (13.8ppg), but jr. Jordan Williamson (11.5ppg) has been stepping up of late to contribute.  They travel to North Bullitt for their next contest on 1/19.

7. Southern  (9-6) The Trojans went 2-1 LIT week.  The Trojans are led by sr. G Cam Pfiester (17.4ppg) and sharpshooter Xavier Shobe (12.6ppg), and 6'9" sr. C Evan Fredrick has stepped up his scoring of late (10ppg).  Next up for the Trojans is a date with PRP on 1/18.

8. Fern Creek (8-10)  The Tigers had a good LIT week, upsetting PRP in the 2nd round in OT.  As expected, sr. Darian Lewis is pacing FC at 16.6ppg, and fellow sr. G Jaden Schooler is at 13.8ppg.  They next play at Butler in a LIT QF rematch on 1/19

9. Bullitt East  (9-7)  The Chargers went 1-2 for the week in the LIT  Sr. Tucker Blandford is the leader of BE (16.2ppg) but jr. G Nolan Davenport is chipping in at 11.9ppg.  Up next for BE is a home game vs. South Oldham on 1/19.

10. Evangel  (7-7)  The Eagles went 2-0 this week and will represent the 6th region in the all A classic.  Guards Christian Spalding (13.3ppg) and Kyran Tilley (12.2ppg) are pacing Evangel so far.  The Eagles next play @ Marion Co. on 1/22.

11. DeSales (6-9)    DeSales also went 1-2 LIT week. The Colts currently have a balanced attack, with 4 players averaging double figures (Carter Bischoff leads team at 16.8ppg)  They next play E-Town on 1/18.

12. Fairdale (7-10)   So.'s Jacob Tucker(19.1ppg) and Dalton Hicks (18.1ppg) give Fairdale a solid 1-2 punch.  Up next is Moore on 1/18.

13. Bullitt Central  (11-6)  Senior Hunter Coleman is leading BC at 22.7ppg. (made all LIT team)

14. Holy Cross  (8-8) so. F Jacob Hand is leading HC is scoring at 20.4ppg.

15.  Beth Haven (11-3) Sr. F Luka Mateski is averaging a team high 25.0ppg (leads the region).

16. Valley (3-17)

17. North Bullitt (4-11)

18.  Moore (2-13)

19. Whitefield Academy (5-9)
