BluegrassPreps.com 6th Region Boys week 2 review

Recommended Posts

MAN - the 6th Region is going to be crazy this year!  Let's look at the current rankings:

1. Western (5-1)  The Warriors have shown so far that they deserve their pre-season #1 ranking.  While the Warriors lost to highly ranked North Oldham on Sat., they have been very impressive to start the season.   Jr. G Trent Hinkle leads the team in scoring at 18.3ppg, but they have 4 players averaging double digits.  Western is also very young - starting 2 fr., 2 so., and jr. Hinkle in their last two games.  Because of their high ceiling and room for improvement, until a 6th region team beats them, they will likely stay #1 in my book.  They next play Doss in a highly-anticipated match up on Tuesday 12/14.

2.  PRP (3-1) The Panthers, while losing to J-town last week, have moved back to the #2 spot after impressive, blow out wins over valley and E-town.  PRP has an impressive 3-man attack with jr. F Keith Robinson (19ppg), sr. C Vic Lado (15ppg) and jr. PG Zee McCown (15ppg)  PRP has an interesting match-up with DeSales this Tuesday 12/14.

3. Doss (3-1)  The Dragons had an impressive week, defeating J-town at home and then winning at Oldham Co.  The Dragons also have a strong 3 man attack - sr.'s Inslee Carroll (16.2ppg), Tony Moss (16ppg) and Chris Anderson (14ppg).  They have an experienced squad and will likely stay in the top 5 most of the season.  As previously mentioned, Doss and Western play Tuesday in a huge district game.

4. Jeffersontown (3-1)  The Chargers lost to Doss early in the week, but rebounded with a nice OT win over Floyd Central, IN on Saturday. There are no stats on file, but the Vasser brothers (sr. Will and so. Dre) have been leading the way.  Up next is an intriguing match-up with Trinity on Tuesday.

5. Bullitt East  (1-1) Here is where things get interesting.  The Chargers move up the rankings with wins over Butler and Spencer Co.   Sr. Tucker Blandford is the leader of BE (14.7ppg) but jr. G Nolan Davenport is leading them in scoring at 15ppg.  Up next is Moore on 12/16 but then the Chargers travel to Doss on 12/17 for a big time Region 6 match-up.

6. Butler  (3-3) The Bears have been the Jekyll and Hyde of the region.  They have lost to Southern and Bullitt East, but defeated 7th region power Male.  Sr's Julion Beard (15.5ppg) and Mershon Dickerson (14.5ppg) lead Butler in scoring.  The Bears hit the road this week for tough games at Ballard and at CAL.

7. Southern  (2-1) The Trojans had only one game this week, a nice win over Fern Creek.  The Trojans are led by sr. G Cam Pfiester (15ppg) and sharpshooter Xavier Shobe (16ppg), who is hitting 53% from 3.  They next play Bullitt Central in a district matchup on Tuesday 12/14.

8. Evangel  (1-3)  The Eagles bounced back this week with a nice win at Fern Creek.  Guard Christian Spalding (13.2) and C Cyr Malonga (12ppg) are pacing Evangel so far.  They are traveling to Las Vegas this week to play in the Jerry Tarkanian Classic.

9. Fern Creek (3-3)  The Tigers have also been up and down.  After losses to Southern and Evangel, they bounce back with a nice win over Trinity.  As expected, sr. Darian Lewis is pacing FC at 18ppg.  They next play at Manual on Monday 12/13.

10. DeSales (2-3)  It's probably not fair to drop the Colts down this far, but it's just a testament to the strength of the region this year.  DeSales split games this week with Central (w) and Highlands from NKY (L).   The Colts currently have a balanced attack, with 4 players averaging double figures (Austin Cole-Carr leads team at 17.4ppg)  They next play at PRP on Tuesday 12/14; with a win they will shoot back up the rankings.

11. Iroquois (4-1)  A pleasant surprise have been the start of the Raiders - while they lost big to Western they gave Southern their only loss.  The Q is  paced by sr. Davion Burton (15.2ppg).  They next host Shelby Co. on 12/14.

12. Bullitt Central  (3-1) senior Hunter Coleman is leading the region at 25.3ppg (leads the region).

13. Holy Cross   (3-1) so. F Jacob Hand is leading HC is scoring at 22.5ppg.

14.  Fairdale (2-3)

15. Beth Haven (3-1) Sr. F Luka Mateski is averaging a team high 23.8ppg.

16. North Bullitt (1-5)

17. Moore (0-5)

18. Valley (0-7)

19. Whitefield Academy (1-3)
