6th Region Tournament Review!

The BULLITT EAST CHARGERS are 6th Region CHAMPS:  Here was the Draw:

Monday 

RU 21 Beth Haven (19-6) 43 @ W 22 DeSales (18-6) 54

RU 23 Evangel (10-13) 72 @ W 24 Bullitt East (12-8) 86

RU 24 Fern Creek (11-6) 58 @ W 21 PRP (13-3) 56

RU 22 Western (10-7) 65 @ W 23 Bullitt Central (12-14) 62

The first round went mostly to form.  DeSales had a slow start; Beth Haven was as close as 2pts near end of 3rd Q, but pulled away for a semi-comfortable win.  Bullitt East previewed their recent run of form with a fairly easy win.  Western struggled at times but held on to win at Bullitt Central.  And finally, as I predicted, there was a dog fight @ PRP and while the Panthers led most of the game, Fern Creek's experience showed and they pulled out the win on the road.

Thursday AT VALLEY

5:30  DeSales 58 vs. Bullitt East 62

7:30  Fern Creek 42 vs.  Western 43

Here's where the chaos started!  Heavy favorite DeSales was down two with 2.7 seconds to go when big man Sekou Kalle, trying to steal the ball, reached over the baseline and was called for a Tech.  That clinched Bullitt East victory and finals appearance.  NO stats have been posted for BE. but I did see that sr. Collin Powell led the Chargers in scoring that game.  Devin Perry led the Colts with 24 pts, and Kalle pitched in 6 pts and 19!! rebounds in the loss.

Then the young Western Warriors, in a defensive slug fest, outlasted the defending champs, Fern Creek.  There are no KHSAA stats for either team but I do know so. guard Trent Hinkle led Western with 18 in the win.

Saturday AT VALLEY

The Chargers controlled this one from start to finish.  No stats on file.

 

So Bullitt East will start Sweet 16 play on Thursday, April 1 @ 2pm vs. Region 1 winner McCracken Co.  The Mustangs are currently a strong 22-6 on the season.  The teams have not played a common opponent so it will be hard to tell who is the favorite.  I do know that Bullitt East is no doubt playing their strongest ball of the season.  Good luck Chargers!
