Week 9 is in the books. A few teams finished up their regular season schedule this week.  As week are looking towards the district tournaments, we will have a district preview as the seedings get more solid. The 62nd district due to the small number of district games played will be doing a blind draw.  63rd is still up in the air awaiting a game this week.  63th has Ashland as #1 and Boyd County as #2.  In the 62nd it looks like Rowan and Fleming will be the top 2.  More to come on the district tournaments.

1)      Ashland (Week 4-0   Season 14-4)                            Last week #1

Ashland had their biggest week of the season.  They played 4 games this week including at the time #2 and undefeated North Laurel and then a Paul Lawrence Dunbar team that had just beat #1 Lex Cath. The Tomcats stepped up and went 4-0 on the week.  They also had wins at Boyd County and at Fleming County.  In these 3 games, the Tomcats had 3 different 30-point scorers with Sellars, Porter, and Villers each crossing the mark.  Ashland’s RPI is .67873

2)      Rowan County (Week 3-0    Season 11-3)                              Last week #2

Rowan County finished the last of their scheduled regular season games, going 3-0.  The Vikings went on the road to Robertson County. Robertson County is usually a very active offense, scoring 80+ points in a game 9 times this season. The Vikings dialed up the defense allowing Robertson only 51 points.  The Vikings also had wins against Boyd County and 15th region contender Johnson Central.  The Vikings are #2 in the region on RPI at .62347

3)      Boyd County (Week 0-4    Season  12-8)                 Last week #3

Boyd County also played 4 games this week.  There were no cupcakes this week as well as the strength of schedule was difficult this week.  The Lions went 0-4 this week with losses to Ashland, Rowan County, Montgomery County, and Russell.  The Lions are generally balanced on their scoring attack with multiple players putting up double-digit scoring.  Usually among those scorer is Rheyce Deboard.  Deboard also recorded 30 points against Montgomery.  The Lions have the 3rd best RPI in the region at .57374

4)      Russell (Week 2-1  Season 11-7)                               Last week #5

Russell had an up and down week this week. That seems to be a consistent thing for the Devils.  With the loss of their senior PG Charlie Jachimczuk to a sprained ankle, the Devils went 2-1 on the season.  The one loss was a big loss, losing to district rival Raceland.  That loss moved the Devils into a possible 3-way tie to determine the district.  In their other games, Russell have 2 quality wins over East Carter and Boyd County.  Russell is #5 in region RPI at .53614
