1st Region Week 6 Review

McCracken is definitely the 1st Region favorite right now, and is the only team that is unbeaten in First Region play.  But there are definitely a handful of teams behind the Mustangs that could win the Regional Tournament.  Should be another interesting week, and hopefully the weather allows some games to be played.

1. McCracken Co. (13-3) - W vs Murray 51-37, W vs Marshall Co. 66-61

This week:  Tues vs CCA

An impressive win over the Tigers this week 51-37.  Ian McCune led the team in that game with 18 points.  Will the Mustangs have a loss against a 1st Region team this regular season?

2. Paducah Tilghman (7-2) - No Games

This week: Thurs at Mayfield, Fri vs St. Mary

The Tornado has been on a pause due to COVID.  They have two interesting games this week - the game at Mayfield coming out of their pause will most likely be a tricky one.

3. Murray (8-5) - L at McCracken 37-51, W vs Carlisle 75-34

This week: Wed vs Lexington Christian (All A Classic), Sat vs Madisionville

Best of luck to the Tigers in the All A Classic - I think they have a real shot to make some noise in that tourney!

4. Graves Co. (10-4) - W vs Carlisle 78-60, W vs Mayfield 70-59

This week: Tues vs Marshall Co, Thurs vs Livingston Central, Fri vs Ballard Memorial

This is one of the hottest teams in the 1st Region right now, and I think they will be a factor in the regional tournament.  An interesting game Tuesday (weather permitting) at home against the Marshalls.

5. Marshall Co. (3-7) - L vs UHA 61-75, L at McCracken 61-66

This week: Tues at Graves Co., Fri vs Lyon Co, Sat vs Ashland Blazer

The Marshalls 3-7 record is very deceiving because they have played a very difficult schedule and also several of their games have been without their star guard Zion Harmon.  I am not sure when Harmon is expected to return from injury.  Three very interesting games this week and the Marshalls are probably underdogs in all three.  Tuesday at Graves, Friday against 2nd Region favorite Lyon County, and Saturday vs Ashland Blazer.

6. Calloway Co. (4-8) - No Games

This Week: Mon vs Hickman, Tues vs Ballard Memorial, Sat at Hopkins Co Central

The Lakers have been on a pause, but will be out of it this week.

7. Mayfield (6-4) - L at Graves 59-70

This week: Tues vs Fulton Co, Thurs vs Tilghman, Sat at Livingston Central

This will be an interesting week for the Cardinals.  Can they spring the upset on Thursday at home against the Tornado?

8. Carlisle Co. (8-5) - L at Graves Co. 60-78, L at Murray 34-75

This week: Tues vs Fulton City, Fri at Hickman Co., Sat at CCA

I think the Comets are still the favorites for the 1st District title.  Friday's game at Hickman County could be a little tricky though.

9. Hickman Co. (7-8) - W vs Fulton City 77-35, W at St. Mary 62-60.

This week: Tues vs CFS, Fri vs Carlisle Co.

Great win for the Falcons at St. Mary!  This is probably one of the surprise teams in the Region so far.  Can they make it to the 1st Region tourney?  They definitely have a shot.

10. St. Mary (5-8) - L vs Hickman Co. 60-62

Tues at Trigg Co., Thurs at CCA, Fri at Tilghman

It's worth noting that the Vikings loss to Hickman County was right after coming out of a 2-week pause.  Busy week upcoming for the Vikings - the game at Tilghman will be a good test for them.
