Bluegrasspreps.com 16th Region Week 5

Week 5 saw 4 teams play no games.  This included two of the top three, Rowan County and Boyd County.  The frustration is the highest in Grayson as East Carter has played only 2 games this season.  They hope to start playing on Feb 8.

1)      Ashland (Week 1-0    Season 7-2)                              Last week #1

Ashland only played one game this week.  The Tomcats had an 18-point win against neighbor, Russell.  Cole Villers hit the 1,000-point club this week.  He continues to be one of the leaders of the Tomcats on both ends of the floor.

2)      Rowan County (Week 0-0    Season 5-1)                Last week #2

Rowan County took a couple of punches from COVID this week and did not play any games

3)      Boyd County (Week 0-0    Season  8-2)                   Last week #3

Like Rowan County, Boyd County also did not play any games this week.

4)      West Carter (Week 2-1    Season 5-2)                      Last week #4

West Carter finally got to play some ball this week. That in itself is a victory!  The Comets were 2-1 this week.  The lost a home game against 15th region power Johnson Central.  The Comets had wins against Bath County and also in the All-A regional finals against Raceland.

5)      Russell (Week 0-1  Season 6-4)                                  Last week #5

Russell’s only game of the week was a road loss to Ashland.  The Devils generally rely on Bell or Jachimczuk for their offensive production.  In the Ashland game, Jachimczuk netted 25.

6)      East Carter (Week 0-0    Season 2-0)                        Last week #6

In what has to be VERY frustrating to coach and players, the Raiders did not have any contests this week due to COVID.  They are currently scheduled for a game on Feb 8 against Fairview.  Sending positive vibes to the Raiders that they can get back on the court SOON.

7)      Raceland (Week 1-2   Season 4-4)                            Last week #7

Raceland went 1-2 on the week.  Still missing a player or two, we are still finding out who and what the Rams can be.  The Rams had a 1-point loss in the All-A finals to West Carter.  They also had a surprise loss to rival Fairview and a district game that was very close until the 4th quarter when the Rams finally got it going to get the win.
