BluegrassPreps.com 11th Region Boys Basketball Week 4 Review

Its hard to believe we have reached a complete month of this crazy season but here we are. Some teams have had smooth sailing and others have hit the covid quarantine lifestyle. At this point some teams are playing short handed and some are playing one week at a time. Lets check out how things went this week in the 11th Region! 

TEAM RANKINGS

1. Lexington Catholic (9-0) - The Knights started the week off on the road at Christian Academy of Louisville and picked up an 11 point win but what Ben Johnson did was the bigger story. The senior poured in 51 points to tie the school record he also grabbed 10 rebounds in the win. At this point he has to be the favorite for Mr. Basketball this season. Sadly, for the Knights that was the only game they played this week as they were put into Covid-19 quarantine. The Knights do return to action later this week with a big time 43rd district matchup against Lexington Christian Academy. 

2. Frederick Douglass (5-1) - The Broncos picked up 2 HUGE wins this week over Madison Central and Bryan Station. All State guard DaShawn Jackson averaged 21.5 points per game this week to pace the Broncos as they look to be a serious contender for the #1 spot in the region. A big rematch with Paul Laurence Dunbar starts the week off for Douglass, followed by games with Bryan Station and Woodford County. The Broncos blew a 17 point 2nd half lead the last time they played PLD and will be looking to avenge their only loss this season. 

3. Bryan Station (4-1) - The Defenders jump up a couple spots in this week's rankings going 1-1 with a win over PLD and a loss to Frederick Douglass. The Bulldogs were short handed against Bryan Station but credit to Station they played the game on their schedule and won. JaMarious LIndsay and Myles Morones continue to pace the Defenders. Coming up is a quick rematch with Frederick Douglass along with games against Lafayette and Tates Creek. 

4. Paul Laurence Dunbar (5-1) - The Bulldogs were missing the services of leading scorer Tim Hall and starter Cade Hilt this week and dropped a close one to Bryan Station but rebounded to pick up a win over Tates Creek. Nick Spalding picked up the scoring this week for PLD with Hall out and continues to improve his overall game. This week the Bulldogs hit the road for 3 HUGE games with Frederick Douglass, Henry Clay, and Madison Central. Expect to see Tim Hall back this week but not sure on Cade Hilt's return date. 

5. Madison Central (5-4) - The Indians finished the week 1-2 with a win over Lafayette and losses to Frederick Douglass and North Laurel. Madison Central is finally back at full strength as senior Braeden Ray made his return after missing some time in the North Laurel game. This week the Indians host Model, Corbin, and Paul Laurence Dunbar. 

6. Henry Clay (4-3) - The Blue Devils havent played a game since January 19th so no results to report. They have moved up to the 6 spot by the results of teams below them. Henry Clay returns to action this week with games at Sayre and Woodford County and a home game with Paul Laurence Dunbar. 

7. Lexington Christian Academy (5-3) - The Eagles played only 1 game this week and got beat down by Lafayette in a somewhat surprising score. No stats have been posted yet so not sure the story of the game. This week LCA hosts Tates Creek before heading to Montgomery County and Lexington Catholic. 

8. Scott County (3-5) - The Cardinals did not play a game this week due to Covid-19 quarantine but had been playing better before their shut down. This week the Cardinals return to action with a crosstown rivalry match up with Great Crossing for the only game on the schedule this week. 

9. Madison Southern (3-6) - The Eagles are another team who have been shut down recently due to Covid-19 quarantine, they were able to get one game in this week, a loss to North Laurel. Madison Southern has no games scheduled this upcoming week. 

10. Lafayette (3-6) - The Generals are a bit of Jekyll and Hyde this season. They picked up a 20 point win over LCA but dropped a game to Madison Central. The 3 wins this season for Lafayette are really good ones but they also have some head scratching losses. This week the Generals hit the road to Bryan Station and Trinity. 

11. Tates Creek (3-7) - The Commodores finished the week 1-2 with a win over Western Hills and losses to Somerset and Paul Laurence Dunbar. Sophomore Sam Parrish continues his breakout season, averaging 20.6 points per game this season. Tates Creek is a young bunch but Coach Gay gets the most out of his guys and the future is bright. Up next the Commodores head to LCA and East Jessamine and host Bryan Station. 

12. Great Crossing (3-6) - The Warhawks have started to play a little better picking up two wins this week over Mercer County and Grant County but dropping a close one on the road to Estill County. Some younger guys have started to step up for Coach Page including Malachi Moreno, the younger brother of former Scott County star Michael Moreno. This week Great Crossing plays 4 games against Frankfort Christian, Covington Holy Cross, Berea, and Scott County. 

13. Franklin County (5-4) - The Flyers are starting to play much better having won 4 of their last 5 including two wins this week over Central Kentucky Homeschool and Russell and a close lose on the road at Danville. Three should be wins for the Flyers this week as they host North Bullitt, head to Berea, and finish the week at home against Carroll County. 

14. Western Hills (4-5) - The Wolverines finish the week 2-1 with an impressive win over Anderson County, a win over Model, and a loss to Tates Creek. In the win over Anderson County Zach Semones poured in 20 points and chipped in 13 points and 11 rebounds. This week Western Hills heads to Danville before hosting Bluegrass United and Shelby County. 

15. Sayre (4-1) - The Spartans havent played since January 16th but do return to action this week with games against St. Francis, Henry Clay, and Nelson County. 

16. Frankfort (4-4) - The Panthers have been out of action since last week but do return to action this week with trips to Paris and Louisville Collegiate. 

17. Berea (1-3) - The Pirates are yet another team who havent played recently due to Covid-19 quarantine. They do return to action this week with games against Franklin County and Great Crossing. 

18. Model (1-7) - The Patriots returned to action this week after an extended lay off and dropped 3 games to Western Hills, Paris, and Somerset Christian, all 3 of which were super close one possession games and one overtime loss. Coach Morgerson is a super hard worker and his team always competes. Hopefully that turns into some wins soon. This week Model plays Madison Central, Powell County, Casey County, and West Jessamine. 

19. Frankfort Christian Academy (2-4) - The Royals picked up their first two wins of the season over Riverside Christian and Heritage Academy and dropped one game to Portland Christian. This week they take on Great Crossing, Highlands Latin, and Beth Haven. 

Just want to add that I may miss some scheduled games due to them not being updated on KHSAA. Doing the best we can this season in an ever changing climate!
