Bluegrasspreps.com 16th Region Week 1

The first week got out to a bang in the 16th Region.  Several early seeding games and exciting matchups for the week.  The region was click to learn that Ashland is not invincible.  However, they are a very good team.

Week 1

1)      Ashland (2-1)

Ashland started the year with a loss to 9th region power Highlands.  They rebounded with a victory at Russell and then an overtime victory against rival Boyd County.  The Tomcats are finding ways to win even with some players working through an early season slump.

2)      Rowan County (2-0)

Rowan took care of business quite efficiently in the first week. Two opponents and two blowout wins. The Vikings were home against Martin and Bourbon County with a 22-point win and a 26-point win respectively.  Newcomer Robert Todd averaged 20 points and 9 rebounds in the first week with his new team.  Rowan has all of the pieces and will be quite successful this season.

3)      Boyd County (1-2)

Boyd County had a rough first week, going 1-2.  However, the Lions certainly did not shy away from the competition this week either.  Following a blowout home win against Fairview. The Lions went to Johnson Central and to Ashland. The Ashland game was an overtime loss that the Lions were certainly good enough to win.

4)      Raceland (2-1)

Raceland went 2-1 in the first week.  The Rams traveled to Johnson Central for a loss, following that up with a home win against Rose Hill and a neutral site win in the first round of the all a against Elliott County.  Pence paced the Rams in offense the first week with scoring lines north of the 20-point mark.

Russell went 2-1 in week one.  This is a better start than the Devils have had for a few years.   Russell had a road District win against Greenup County, a home win against Paintsville, and a home loss against Ashland.  Offensively the Devils are going early and often to Bell and Jachimczuk as to be expected.

6)      West Carter (2-1)

West Carter also went 2-1 in week 1.  The Comets had a road loss to Shelby Valley and home wins against Magoffin County and Fairview. East Carter sets to open their season on Jan 12 hosting Greenup County.

😎    Lewis County (1-1)

Lewis County was on the road for week one. The Lions had a loss at Mason and a district win at Greenup County.  The Lions will get points by committee with several players able to put points up in a hurry.  From watching the Lions, I think they are still working to find out who that are in the post O’Keefe era.

9)      Bath County (1-2)

Bath County stayed at home all of week 1.  The Lions lost to Bluegrass United, which is a home school team from Lexington.  They then lost to Betsy Lane before getting a notch in the win column against Pendleton.
