Class 1A

 

Just when you think the pecking order for the east was set, Hazard goes and knocks off Paintsville and proves they are a team definitely deserving of attention. The Bulldogs will try to further their validation against 2A's top team Somerset. Paintsville will look to avoid a losing streak against a very good Union (VA) program. Raceland looked good last week and will have their eyes on a highly tanked 3A prize. It will be an unusual week with 60% of the Top 10 on a BYE week.

Class 2A

 

All eyes will be on District 8 as the first intra-district battle between Top 10 teams features Mayfield travelling to Princeton to take on Caldwell County. Somerset completes their three game tour of Class 1A teams with a road trip to play a confident Hazard team. Beechwood dropped to 1-4 with a narrow loss to Taft (OH). The Tigers still have one more hurdle before district play with 6A Dixie Heights, but a loss this week would be the most alarming of any. Newport fell victim late against rival Newport Central Catholic and will look for a bounce back.

Class 3A

 

Christian Academy of Louisville takes a free fall and Mercer County makes a massive rise in the wake of the Titans' shootout victory over the Centurions. DeSales will try to avoid a similar fate after they trek to the western tip to square off with Paducah Tilghman. Glasgow nearly earned a statement victory but fell short against 5A South Warren, the Scotties should rebound against Adair County. Ashland always gets a tough challenge from 1A Raceland and will look to avoid the upset minded Rams.

Class 4A

 

Boyle County's week off will feel all the sweeter after the Rebels demoralized 5A Highlands in yet another statement victory. Johnson Central's win over Simon Kenton might not resonate as much, but it was still impressive in it's own right as the Golden Eagles enter district play. The most exciting game of the week was the last second stunner that resulted in Logan County breaking Madisonville's heart. Logan County cannot rest on their laurels as they follow it up with an equally important game against Hopkinsville. Keep an eye on the Central and Shelby County game as well as it will have big ramifications in District 4.

Class 5A

 

It wasn't in the Cards for Scott County as they were handled by #1 Frederick Douglass. Scott County needs to get off the mat against 6A Ryle but it will not be a walk in the park. South Warren and Bowling Green each had what they hoped to be excellent tune up games heading into this week's rivalry game. South Warren got all they wanted but survived against Glasgow, Mother Nature was less kind to Bowling Green in a cancelled game. Highlands got a reality check against 4A Boyle County and need to find their form against Conner.

Class 6A

 

Elton John insisted "Saturday Night was alright for fighting", but due to fall break it will be Thursday Night that takes the center stage this week. PRP takes their shot at Male and hope for better results than what Butler found last week. The big Thursday game will be Central Hardin hosting those Bears as the Bruins attempt to continue their undefeated season. After making short work of arch nemesis St. Xavier, Trinity still has one more out of state powerhouse up their sleeve as they head to Indy to play Cathedral. McCracken County gets special recognition for their unbelievable offensive performance against Apollo, but if they have any post season aspirations they need to sure up their defense immediately starting with Daviess County.
