Concordia University of Ann Arbor finally put together a complete game in their home opener defeating the St. Francis (IL) Saints 30-7. The Cardinal defense put in another stalwart performance. The offense took a while but got on track. One factor was far fewer penalties this week. Another factor was that Junior Peter Morrison was given the start at QB. Senior QB Roger Engle was injured in the last game but he appeared to be fine on the sideline. Morrison is not as big physically as Engle, but his passes were more accurate than we’ve seen in the last two games. Happily for CUAA, this coincided with the receivers exhibiting better hands. Morrison had 22 completions in 28 attempts for 241 yards and 2 TDs with no INTs. Keirell Jackson added 116 yards of offense in 18 rushes for one TD. The score was 13-0 at halftime but the game felt to be clearly in the Cardinals’ hands as the second half would prove. The Saints finally scored with 1:34 remaining in the game when CUAA had mainly 2nd team players in the lineup. CUAA, 3-0, now heads into the heart of their schedule playing against ranked opponents in the next 4 games.
