MISS KENTUCKY SOCCER - Highlands senior goalkeeper Sydney Hiance has been named Miss Kentucky Soccer for the role she played on this year's state championship team.

Hiance recorded 20 shutouts for the Bluebirds to tie the state record she set last year.

Her last shutout came in the state championship game when Highlands defeated Louisville Sacred Heart, 1-0, to claim its second straight state title.

Hiance became a candidate for Miss Kentucky Soccer when coaches voted her Player of the Year on the East All-State Team. The other contender was Sam Hueker of Oldham County, who was voted Player of the Year on the West All-Star Team.

Hiance and Hueker were both named to the Midwest All-America Team that includes players from six states. Highlands junior defender Caitlin Beck joined them on the all-region team that is sponsored by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.

Hiance, who accepted a scholarship from the University of Kentucky, was the starting goalkeeper for Highlands the last three years.

She allowed 33 goals in 6,080 minutes for a 0.43 goals-allowed average and recorded 53 shutouts, three shy of the state record in girls' soccer.
