UCF 66 NKU 53

Featured Replies

This was from the weekend but I thought NKU really competed well if this is the best team in the American Conference.

It was a 2-point game at the half but NKU needed to be up 6 or 8 because UCF didn't defend very well. They were trying to run the Norse off of the 3-point line but that allowed drive and kicks for wide open threes as NKU moved the ball very well. They ended the half a decent 6-for-16 on threes but they were all wide open and--taken by Sharpe, McDonald, Walton, and Mocaby--they should do better and needed to if they were going to win on the road.

In the second half, UCF tightened up the D and the threes were contested. UCF was huge with Tacko Fall playing well, so you knew NKU would struggle inside.

Overall, playing without a key starter (Tate), hitting 8-for-31 from three, making just 7-of-17 free throws, on the road, against a team that is 7'6"/6'10"/6'9" across the front line, against a team some think can be dangerous in March...I was impressed. Just didn't make shots.

McDonald (22 pts, 8 reb) played a great game given the circumstances and opponent. Sharpe was the only other player who stepped up (13 pts) although he didn't have a great shooting night (4 for 12). Walton added 11.

Didn't like Robinson and Djoko both starting (and getting 36 and 28 minutes) against a big team that you'll need to shoot and hit threes against but I guess Tate's absense might have affected that a little bit.

Didn’t hear, why was Tate out?

Groin injury. Not sure of the severity. Hope he's back for the UC game at least.
