Class 1A

Kentucky Country Day served notice that if they can put together four quarters like they did for the first half against Lexington Christian Academy, then the Bearcats will be a force to be reckoned with. Ludlow equated themselves well by taking down fellow ranked Williamsburg. As a result, the Panthers see a nice jump in their rankings. We may get to learn a lot about the three teams ranked in the Top 5 that are in action this weekend. Beechwood and Raceland each have chances to make statements in some of their last non-district action. Hazard hosts Pikeville with major playoff implications on the line.

1. Beechwood vs. 6A #6 Simon Kenton

2. Kentucky Country Day -- OPEN

3. Hazard vs. #9 Pikeville

Class 2A

Mayfield could not remain undefeated as they came up short in a comeback bid against 3A Corbin. With this loss, only Danville, DeSales, and Lexington Christian Academy remain unblemished. Of the the three, Danville faces the stiffest test as they take on a 6A Tates Creek squad that may be playing the best ball of all the Fayette Public Schools. Christian Academy-Louisville returns to action for the first time since their loss and will have a 6A test of their own on the road at Meade County. Somerset continues to impress and will look to knock off their fourth consecutive ranked foe as they make the trek to 1A Raceland. This week also features two huge District battles as Leslie County travels to Prestonsburg and Metcalfe County hosts Monroe County.

1. Danville vs. 6A Tates Creek

2. DeSales vs. 6A North Hardin

3. Lexington Christian Academy at Middlesboro

4. Mayfield vs. Murray

5. Christian Academy-Louisville at 6A Meade County

6. Somerset at 1A #5 Raceland

9. Glasgow at Green County

10. Owensboro Catholic at McLean County

Class 3A

Corbin, Boyle County, and Elizabethtown continue to insist that they are clearly in the race for Class 3A's top spot. The Redhounds put a major feather in their cap by taking down previously undefeated 2A Mayfield on a neutral field. Boyle County was especially impressive against 6A North Hardin while Elizabethtown keeps rolling. Caldwell County needed a last second Field Goal to keep their mojo going and cannot rest on their laurels against a solid Union County squad. Perhaps the two games to watch in the class will be District clashes between Casey County and Bell County, as well as a potential District Championship on the line when Russell takes on Fleming County.

1. Belfry at Floyd Central

2. Corbin vs. McCreary Central

3. Boyle County -- OPEN

4. Elizabethtown vs. Hart County

5. Central -- OPEN

6. Caldwell County at Union County

8. Western Hills vs. 2A Washington County

9. Casey County at Bell County

10. LaRue County vs. 1A Bethlehem

Class 4A

The roller coaster ride of Class 4A continues to twist and turn. Only two teams remain undefeated among the entirety of the class. You could probably guess Johnson Central, who rolled past Boyd County, but would you guess Logan County or Rockcastle County if given the choice? The Rockets lost their quest for perfection against a stout 2A Somerset squad and must quickly regroup against Wayne County. Logan County is perhaps the biggest surprise in the State and now sits at 6-0 after defeating Hopkins County Central. Allen County-Scottsville enters the Top 10 but will immediately be asked to justify their spot in a huge Southern Kentucky showdown with Franklin-Simpson.

1. Johnson Central vs. East Carter

2. Wayne County vs. #5 Rockcastle County

3. Collins vs. Franklin County

4. Ashland at Boyd County

5. Rockcastle County at #2 Wayne County

6. Franklin-Simpson at #10 Allen County-Scottsville

7. Hopkinsville vs. Madisonville-North Hopkins

8. Mercer County vs. East Jessamine

9. Western vs. John Hardin

10. Allen County-Scottsville vs. #7 Franklin-Simpson

Class 5A

Covington Catholic is serving notice in a big way. Many people did not think the Colonels could knock off Columbus DeSales, let alone blow them out of the water. The hottest team in Class 5A is Madison Southern who just completed a sweep of the Pulaski County 5A schools by polishing off Southwestern and the Pulaski County Maroons in back to back weeks. The Eagles will make their Top 10 debut. Christian County continues to win and remain undefeated as they get a very tough challenge from Owensboro who is in need of a signature win. Perry Central may not be represented in the rankings but they are in elite company as one of four undefeated teams remaining in Class 5A.

1. Covington Catholic -- OPEN

2. Bowling Green at Grayson County (9/28)

3. Christian County at #7 Owensboro

4. South Warren vs. Greenwood

5. South Oldham at Nelson County

6. Fern Creek at Iroquois

7. Owensboro vs. #3 Christian County

8. Madison Southern -- OPEN

9. Southwestern at 6A Central Hardin

10. Highlands -- OPEN

Class 6A

If St. Xavier has aspirations of the #1 ranking they are firmly in the middle of a two game stretch that would enable them to take the reigns. Last week, St. Xavier outlasted a very good Pleasure Ridge Park club and will now look to take down their arch nemesis, Trinity. Pleasure Ridge Park has to rebound immediately as Male would love nothing more than to knock them further down the pecking order. All great heavyweight match-ups need an under-card fight. How about three different games featuring Top 10 ranked squads from Louisville? Manual and Butler will fit that description.

1. Trinity vs. #2 St. Xavier at University of Louisville

2. St. Xavier vs. #1 Trinity at University of Louisville

3. Scott County at Henry Clay

4. Male vs. #5 Pleasure Ridge Park

5. Pleasure Ridge Park at #4 Male

6. Simon Kenton at 1A #1 Beechwood

7. Ryle vs. Cathedral (IN)

8. Butler vs. #9 Manual

9. Manual at #8 Butler

10. Ballard at Seneca
