Bowling Green 44 Greenwood 7

Purples thoroughly dominated the first half blowing to a 37-0 lead. Junior QB Trent Steelman opened the scoring with a 20 yd (approx.) run. The PAT by senior Matt Simpson was no good. The Purples struck again at 5:44 left in the first qtr with a 17 yd pass from Steelman to senior back Chris Johnson. Simpson's PAT was good, and the Purples were up 13-0. Johnson scored his second TD on an 18 yd run, and Simpson scored a 2pt conversion, becoming only the third Purple to ever score both a PAT and a 2pt conversion in the same game. That score came at 0:17 left in the first qtr.

Jared Carpenter scored a safety with 4:18 left in the half when he tackled the Gator QB in the end zone. Johnson struck again, this time on a 23 yd pass from Steelman with 2:19 left in the first half, and Simpson booted the PAT to make it 30-0. The next score came only 19 seconds later when the Purples forced a Greenwood turnover, then on the first play senior Avery Hibbitt scored on a 24 yd run. Simpson booted the PAT, and the Purples ended the first half up 37-0.

A big rainstorm started the second half and watered things down thoroughly. Greenwood scored on a short run in the third qtr, and senior RB Anthony Davis scored the final Purples' TD on a two yd run early in the 4th qtr.

Congratulations Purples! It looks like you've got your weapons back on the field. :thumb:

Congrats to kicker Matt Simpson! Don't know the stats, but he did a great job tonight. Ist string kicker was sidelined with an injury I believe. Most exciting play was when the extra point snap went 10 yards over Matt's head, he chased it down, and ran it in for 2 with several Gators chasing him. :dancingpa

The other Purples who booted a PAT and scored a 2pt conversion in the same game were Jay Burr and Brian Lowder. Brian wasn't a starting kicker either, but a lot of you remember when he won a national championship as a DB for WKU! I forget what year Brian did it, but Jay did his in 1991 or 1992 against Owensboro.:D

Were you at the game? I wish we could have met you. Maybe next time. If you were at the game, is your hair still wet like ours LOL! What a rain-shower.

Was a really good game. Coach Wallace was heard saying on television that he is still not happy with where the team is. I could see a few things that could be improved upon, however, to watch those kids play is amazing. They are a great group of players as well as human beings!!!! Great job to the players, coaches, fans, parents, and to the Gators!!! Greenwood never stopped trying. They kept playing hard and never gave up. A big congrats goes out to BOTH teams!!!

How 'bout some game numbers?

The Purples rolled up 19 first downs to Greenwood's six. BGHS ran the ball 36 times for 220 yards, and the Purple D held the Gators to 31 yards on 42 attempts. Trent Steelman was 12 of 18 passing for 162 yards and one int. Greenwood's passing was five of nine for 30 yards and no picks. BGHS collected 382 yards total offense to Greenwood's 61.

Senior Avery Hibbitt rang up 86 yards rushing on only eight totes and one score. Senior Chris Johnson had 33 yards on only four carries and one score. Steelman had 12 attempts for 70 yards and a score (which was for 14 yards, not around 20).

Chris Johnson caught three passes for 48 yards and two scores. Ryan Beard snagged two passes for 22 yards. Junior Tristan Neal caught a pass for 15 yards. Junior D.L. Moore caught two passes for 41 yards. And junior Ryan Wallace, who was not expected to play, had two catches for 13 yards.

Junior DB Corbin Smith and senior OLB George Bowra each recovered a fumble for the Purples.

Junior SS Jared Carpenter had an excellent game for the Purples, making ten solo stops and two tackles for losses totalling 20 yards. One of them was for the safety.

The rushing TD that Hibbitt scored was the 60th TD of his career!!
