I can't say I disagree with your statement. Hard to figure this out.

I haven't gone through this with a fine tooth comb, but movement in rankings aren't based on just what one team has done. It is also based on what other teams do. So maybe other teams moving up or down affected Ballard.

the only part about the updated rankings that makes since is st x moving to number one. how does cov cath stay where they were if they lost to team way further down then them?

I'm not defending the Maher system and I don't know if all of Saturday 9/10 games were factored into this week's rankings. I agree with Goal15 you clearly need to take all of the week's games into the equation. As an example

CCH beat #27 McNick 5-2 (# 27 in Cincy at that time) @ McNick and tied #4 Trinity @ Trinity 1-1. Ballard lost to #3 St X (#3 at that time) 6-2 @ home. Point is you can't just factor in CCH's lost @ Ballard. Daviess CO, Oldham Co, Louisville Collegiate, and Mercer Co all went 3-0-0 last week. Woodford Co went 1-2-0. Clearly if you want to hold or move up you need to have good results Vs good teams, and you better not stub your toe at home.

I completely agree with what you are saying gameplayedright and im just using the cov cath/ballard as an example. and I don't believe ballard should be above cov cath. just the fact they played each other and neither team changed positions.

Probably more of a coincidence.
