CCH @ Elder 8/30.

Thoughts and predictions?

Hard to say w/ the injury situation for CCH. I heard Stava has a concussion so I would think he's out. Not sure what the status of Mike Vogt is either.

 

Regardless, I think CCH has enough to win this either way. I'll go w/ CCH 3-2.

Saw Vogt at NKU match yesterday, should be good to go tomorrow.

 

I agree that CCH should take this one, I think Elder is a little down this season.

Both Elder and CCH lost a lot of talent last year, but both reload well. D-1 Cincinnati coaches poll has Elder at #10. Elder's Maher rating dropped almost 1/2 point after their first two games (1-0 win over Oak Hills and a 3-1 loss to Sycamore). CCH remains #1 in the NKY coaches poll and has only seen a 1/10th point drop in its Maher rating. Based on 8/27 Maher ratings, CCH would be a slight favorite on a neutral field and Elder a slight favorite playing at Elder. I think it either ends in a 1-1 tie or a 2-1 win for CCH.

 

Side-note... it was fun last Sunday to see both Bryce Day and Joey Sabato playing for NKU in the scrimmage against UK. Both at the #7 position. Neat to see kids get a chance to keep playing at a high level.

I saw both Sabato and Bryce Day in action yesterday for NKU and I'd have to say that Day looked more comfortable out there than Sabato did. I find it curious that both players, who are natural attacking players, were slotted at outside back for NKU. Day has done his share of defending in the past and did well yesterday. No knock on Sabato but I'd guess that he's not played much defender in the past, if ever.

Bryce looked better than Joey in the NKU v UK game as well. Interesting if they are trying him at outside back - might be a good sign that they're trying to find a spot for him sooner rather than later. Best of luck to the young man.

I agree with what GP said about the match yesterday, I thought Bryce did a nice job at OB. I am guessing the staff at NKU did as well, I think Bryce entered the match during the first water break and was not subbed out the rest of the match.

Yes, he played 75 minutes yesterday, probably more than any other frosh on the roster but I wasn't keeping that close of an eye on the others. Versatile players usually will find themselves on the field more often than others.

 

On a side note, about half the NKU starting lineup was foreign born and quite frankly, not all that impressive. Not sure about the Evansville lineup as they didn't announce it but if you want to generate some interest in your program there is plenty of home grown talent that is just as good as what I saw on the field for NKU.

Sir, YC and groinpull, thanks for sharing your experiences at the NKU game yesterday. Glad to hear the two local products showed well and continue to have an impact on that program.

 

CCH 3 - Elder 1

I believe that Evansville started 3 foreign born players... goalie, right back and a central midfielder.

 

I too was not impressed with the overall quality of play from NKU, outside of the first 15 minutes of the second half they seemed determined to try and play direct. For the few minutes that Sabato was playing at striker, this was still the plan even though the 2 CB from Evansville had a considerable height advantage.

 

From my perspective, it is hard to gauge what the talent level actually is at NKU. I lost count of the amount of times they continued to play long passes out of the back, completely bypassing the midfield, I'm not a big fan of the direct-style they were attempting to play.
