October 20, 201510 yr Disclaimer - I have no idea why, he just did it on his own. We built my son a computer back in January. We purchased an I5-4690K CPU. For some reason my son felt that wasn't good enough, so he saved up and bought an I7-4790k. He checked and the motherboard can handle the new CPU. The question is whether this is a simple unplug the old and plug in the new and go OR is there something else that needs to happen?
October 20, 201510 yr If compatibility has been verified, then yes, it is a pretty simple thing to do. Be sure to unplug power and let the computer rest a few minutes before you begin. Do not remove the new processor from its packaging until ready to insert, be very careful of the pins so not to bend or damage any. Do apply heat sink paste and follow all directions.
