Ram
Beechwood remains the consensus #1 team in 1A this week, followed by Paintsville and Pikeville. Raceland’s close loss to Fairview drops the Rams from #4 last week to #7, and it doesn’t get any easier for them as they take on #2 Paintsville this week. Russellville and Paris each move up one spot. Fairview moves up to #6 this week after Campbellsville lost to Bethlehem last week and drops out of the top 10. Holy Cross (Louisville) enters this week at #10. Class 2A rankings remain unchanged this week, with Mayfield continuing to hold the #1 spot. The only shake up is Shelby Valley moving up to #9 after defeating last week’s #9, Leslie County, who drops out of the top 10 to be replaced by Monroe County entering at #10. The biggest upset of the week in any class was Boyle County’s loss last week to Lexington Catholic, producing a shakeup in the Class 3A rankings this week. Boyle County slips to #4, allowing Central to overtake the #1 spot. Belfry moves to #2 and Lexington Catholic moves from #6 last week to #3 this week. Caldwell County is #5 this week, followed by Elizabethtown at #6 and Paducah Tilghman at #7. At the bottom, Corbin overtakes Bell County at #8. Adair County drops out of the top 10 after losing to #5 Elizabethtown. Lawrence County enters at #10 The weekly debate over the #1 spot in Class 4A concludes with Johnson Central retaining the top spot. But spirited discussion by some of our staff for South Warren to take that spot is ongoing. For now, South Warren remains #2. Answers regarding Johnson Central could be evident when the Eagles visit #3 Ashland this week. While the top and bottom of Class 4A remains the same, a little shake up is seen in the middle as Shelby County moves up to #4 after defeating last week’s #4 Spencer County. Spencer County moves to #5, nudging Scott into the #6 spot. Bowling Green continues to reign as #1 in Class 5A this week, with Pulaski County (#2) and Owensboro (#3) on their heels. The only movement in Class 5A this week is at the bottom, where Covington Catholic, #8 last week, drops to #10 after last week’s #10, Highlands, defeated the Colonels. South Oldham overtakes the #8 spot, and Highlands inches up to #9. Class 6A also remains the same, as #1 Male escapes a close game last week against #5 St. Xavier. Trinity, Scott County and Simon Kenton all convincingly defeat their opponents last week and retain their #2, #3 and #4 spots, respectively. This week brings 2 top #10 matchups as Male takes on #6 Manual and Simon Kenton takes on #10 Ryle. Class 1A 1. Beechwood vs. Dayton 2. Paintsville vs. #7 Raceland 3. Pikeville at Jenkins 4.
