Eastern Kentucky Power Rankings 10-13-15

Featured Replies

10. Corbin (3A, 4-3)- Redhounds got a much needed rest and now turn their focus on a massive EKY matchup.

9. Pikeville (1A, 5-2)- With the District locked up the Panthers continue to gear down for a playoff run. Expect Pikeville to coast until the Regional Finals.

8. Bell County (3A, 6-1)- The Bobcats are playing good football and went on the road to beat a solid larger classification Tennessee school. More on them further down.

7. North Laurel (5A, 8-0)- As expected the Jags continue to cruise along and an undefeated regular season is imminent. Will the lack of a test though hurt them come November?

6. Southwestern (5A, 6-1)- Warriors are cooking, making short work of South Laurel, and only an over matched Lincoln County team stands between them and "Bedlam: Kentucky Edition".

5. Paintsville (1A, 8-0)- The Tigers made another statement by crushing a ranked Fairview team on the road and get a well timed BYE this week before a massive game next week.

4. Belfry (3A, 6-1)- The good news for Belfry? They all but locked up their District by beating a pretty solid Lawrence County team. The bad news? Belfry is regressing and playing borderline embarrassing football. If Belfry can protect the football they should coast through the next two weeks.

3. Ashland (4A, 7-0)- Tomcats have kind of been playing down to their competition as they endure the doldrums of District play. Greenup is a tricky team and the Tomcats will have to get their heads right and make sure they aren't staring ahead.

2. Johnson Central (4A, 6-0)- The Golden Eagles can attest to that fact as Greenup made them a little uncomfortable at times before JC opened up to a convincing win. The boys from Paintsville will have one last snooze fest against Rowan County before closing the season with their two stiffest tests.

1. Pulaski County (5A, 6-1)- There are few teams in Kentucky playing better ball than Pulaski County. The Maroons are rockin and rollin on both sides of the ball and welcome South Laurel in a game their reserves should see lots of minutes.

TRENDING UP

West Carter- Statement win for the Comets as they force a 3-way tie in their District by dismantling Fleming County on the road 43-0. Powell County is West's best friend right now as the Pirates help their tiebreaker with every win.

Shelby Valley- The Wildcats suffered a reality check in Week 0, but are ROLLING winning 6 straight. Leslie County comes to Robinson Creek with a District Title on the line.

Wayne County- Look out for the Cards! The winners of four straight they basically took the 4A District 6 title by beating Knox Central 35-24.

TRENDING DOWN

Fairview- Losers of 4 of their last 6 they essentially fall to last place in their three team District. With Raceland next will the Eagles confidence take another hit?

Montgomery County- Back to back losses now has the Indians spiraling. A defense that had allowed only 55 points total through their first 5 games has allowed 88 in the past two weeks.

Perry Central- The wheels have officially fallen off or the Commodores. Five straight losses and North Laurel up next. An inaugural 3-7 season is looking likely for Coach Larkey.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

QB Luke Woods, Whitley County

Woods was dynamic in the Colonel's 54-20 win over Perry Central. Woods was 4/8 passing for 101 yards and a TD... but it was on the ground that he went ballistic. The Quarterback scrambled for 314 yards on just 16 carries and added another 3 scores.

GAME OF THE WEEK

#10 Corbin @ #8 Bell County

Two historic rivals with a lot riding on the line. The winner takes the District 8 Title, but more importantly sets themselves up for home field advantage in the Regional Championship in case of a rematch. District 7 in 3A is not especially strong, but with Powell County the clear top team a win makes sure of a lighter path until Round 3.

The Redhounds should be well rested and a little more battle tested, but Bell County is red hot. The Bobcats are rolling offensively averaging over 42 points per game during their current 5 game winning streak.
