Paintsville proved they are near the top by winning their first district game in the Super District of Class 1A. Can they beat Raceland? That is the big question on a lot of minds right now. Beechwood is getting better each week and may be peaking at the right time of year. Pikeville, Raceland and Russellville are just waiting for their chance to prove where they belong in a top heavy class. We know what Paintsville did against Fairview last week. Now we will get a better read on the East when Raceland takes their shot at Fairview.

 

In Class 2A Mayfield has returned to the number one position after Christian Academy of Louisville handed DeSales a loss. Can Owensboro Catholic shake up the top three? Or will Danville be the big surprise come playoff time? Big game between #7 Newport Central Catholic and #8 Lloyd Memorial. Who will prove to be supreme? Likewise, #9 Leslie County takes on #10 Shelby Valley.

 

There are some big matchups in Class 3A this week. #1 Boyle County takes on #6 Lexington Catholic. Can the Knights shock the state? Or will we find out there is a big gap between Boyle County and everyone else? Who will prove they deserve their ranking when #5 Elizabethtown visits #10 Adair County? #8 Bell County takes on #9 Corbin in a game that may be too close to call. We should have a solid read on most of the top of Class 3A after Friday night.

 

Johnson Central wins another argument of "who is better" with South Warren. Could it all be settled in the State Championship game? Ashland may have something to say about that scenario when they have their district battle with the Golden Eagles on October 23rd. Probably the biggest matchup of the week in Class 4A will be #4 Spencer County and #6 Shelby County. Will we find a true contender in that game? Could Spencer County be the most underrated team in this class? Or will Shelby County show us more?

 

The top of Class 5A stays the same and looks to be as good as ever this season. Bowling Green and Pulaski County remain the primary topics of discussion. Should the defending Champion be given the nod? Or, should history a bigger factor? Owensboro still wants its shot. Fern Creek is still the surprise team of Class 5A. Can they make it to the Championship Game? Don't forget, Pulaski County still has a much anticipated matchup with Southwestern, who beat them last year in the regular season. Lastly, we have the matchup that many in Northern Kentucky have been waiting on: #8 Covington Catholic and #10 Highlands.

 

Class 6A stays pretty constant again this week with the one minor upset last week delivered by St. Xavier. The Tigers beat Manual and the two flipped spots in the rankings. Male is still the team to beat after soundly defeating Trinity earlier in the season. Scott County wants their chance to show what they can do, and Simon Kenton is looking the part of contender. The Cooper or Ryle argument was decided last week.
