BELFRY If you would have told Lawrence County coach Joe Cecil that Belfry would have had seven turnovers and nine fumbles, he would have taken his chances.

 

The odds were not in the Bulldogs’ favor on Friday night.

 

No. 2 Belfry, the defending back-to-back Class 3A state champions, found a way to win and escaped with a 27-23 victory at CAM Stadium.

 

“I just hate it for our kids,” Cecil said. The Bulldogs have now lost 11 straight to the Pirates. Their last win came in 2002, which marked their fourth consecutive win over Belfry at the time. “They (Belfry) are the standard in Class 3A football and we played up to those standards tonight.”

 

They did, and then some.
