Tiger Feast: Paintsville pummels Fairview

WESTWOOD Paintsville put on a first-half football clinic befitting its No. 1 Class A state ranking Friday night.

Junior Kent Phelps had a field day running the ball behind the Tigers’ strong offensive line, while Paintsville shut down Fairview’s normally high-scoring attack from the outset.

As a result, the undefeated Tigers roared out to a 32-0 halftime lead in beating the 10th-ranked Eagles 38-12.

“It’s big for our program,” Paintsville coach Joe Chirico said of his team’s performance in round one of a loaded district that also features No. 6 Raceland.

“From where we’ve been the last six or seven years to now, it’s tremendous. Everyone’s excited. Everyone’s on a high.”

The Tigers are off to an 8-0 start after stealing the spotlight on Fairview’s Senior Night.

“This just gives us motivation going into the next two weeks,” Phelps said. “We have a bye, then Raceland will be the biggest game of the year.”
