The Lexington/Central Kentucky Power Rankings – Oct. 4 Sponsored by Jess-105.9

The Rankings

10) Wayne County (4A / 5 – 2 / Streak 3W / Next Opp: Knox Central)

The Wayne County Cardinals break into the rankings this week. They are on a three game winning streak and won over Rockcastle County 21-13. Junior Dalton Garner leads the Cardinals in rushing, averaging over 100 yards per game and over 7 yards per carry.

9) Madison Central (6A / 4 – 2 / Streak 1W / Next Opp: Tates Creek )

Madison Central was idle and faces Tates Creek in district play.

8) Paris (1A / 7 – 0 / Streak 7W / Next Opp: Nicholas County)

The Greyhounds ran all over Bracken County 52 to 0 to go to 7 and 0 on the season. Next up for the Greyhounds is Nicholas County (4-3). The Blue Jackets have looked good at times this year and defeated Berea 60 to 0 this past week.

7) Lexington Catholic (3A / 3 – 3 / Streak 1L / Next Opp: Western Hills)

The Knights were idle this past weekend. Some are projecting that the Knights just need starting QB Legend Brumbaugh back to improve the offense. But the Knights QBs completed over 50% of their passes against the staunch Cooper defense. The main problem was not so much completions but yards per completion. With no less than 3 talented wipeouts it seems that the average for completed passes should be more than 4.9 yards .

6) Franklin County (4A / 6 – 1 / Streak – 1L / Next Opp: Spencer County)

The Flyers take their first loss in the season against Collins, 23 to 0. The Flyers face an undefeated

Spencer County. The Bears beat Collins recently 35 to 14. So the Flyers have their work cut out for them this week.

5) Danville (2A / 5 – 1 / Streak 3W / Next Opp: Somerset)

The Admirals put a running clock on Campellsville, 44 – 6. This week they play a solid Somerset teem that is 4 – 2 on the season.

4) Bryan Station (6A / 5 – 2 / Streak – 1L / Next Opp: Paul Lawrence Dunbar)

With a 19 to 12 loss to the Generals the Defenders slide a bit this week. This week the Defenders get a chance to make amends taking on a surging Bulldog team in district action.

3) Lafayette (6A / 5 – 2 / Streak – 2W / Next Opp: Clark County)

The Generals claw their way higher in the rankings with a 19-12 win against a strong Bryan Station squad. Defense wins championships they say. This is a key improvement for a General team that has shown it can score – and comes at the right time. Lafayette has a district game against a hurting Clark County team this week.

2) Scott County (6A / 5 – 1 / Streak – 2W / Next Opp: Henry Clay)

The Cardinals were idle and have Henry Clay this week.

1) Boyle County (3A / 6 – 0 / Streak - 6W / Next Opp: Garrard County)

The Rebels were idle this week and take on a Garrard County that was on a good run before losing their last outing.

Ranking Notes

This week was an idle week for many teams.

Though Bryan Station went down to Lafayette in the upset the big upset was Collins over Franklin County. That raises some red flags on the Flyers but for this week they will not fall out of the rankings.

Wayne County replaces Henry Clay at the 10 spot. Losing to a good Pulaski team was not bad by itself. But the Blue Devils were routed. The performance ofUK commit Devonte Robinson was highlighted in the local paper coverage. But is 8.5 tackles is impressive when you team loses with running clock. Wayne County’s SOS maybe suspect – but they are winning. Many teams that could be in the ranking are not.

Game of the Week

Paris (1A #8) vs Nicholas County (1A), October 9, 7:30. Nicholas County

Two in-region schools collide in a key district 1A matchup. Nicholas County has shown some sparks this season. But the Greyhounds have run off 7 straight.
