Coal Grove outlasts Fairview, 46-36

COAL GROVE So much for a low-scoring game on a rainy Friday night.

Once steady precipitation turned into light drizzle, offenses (and special teams) began to sizzle at Lemaster Stadium.

Coal Grove and Fairview poured on 38 combined points in a chaotic third period as the Hornets emerged with a 38-36 lead heading into the fourth.

The Hornets put it away, 46-36, behind two 100-yard rushers and clutch fourth-quarter defense. Tanner Henry and Kimo Baldwin both eclipsed the century mark.

“Our defense played really well against a really good team,” said Coal Grove first-year coach Brian Kidd. “(Fairview has) a lot of ball players. Our defense made stops when they had to, and I was proud of them tonight.”
