Rams strike up band, hit final note in 26-20 defeat of Dawgs

LOUISA At 10:06 p.m. Friday night in Luke Varney Jr. Memorial Stadium, like they do after every football victory, the Raceland Rams gathered in front of their supporters and sang the school’s fight song.

About 50 seconds’ worth of game time earlier, the thought that the visiting Rams could loosen up their vocal chords on this night would have seemed preposterous: Lawrence County had the lead, 20-18, and the ball on its own 30-yard line. Raceland had two timeouts remaining. The Bulldogs had only to run the clock out.

Rams junior linebacker Bailey Walker bailed Raceland out on what would likely have been the last offensive play run in the game. He ripped the ball from Lawrence County’s Cole Mosley and took it back 30 yards to the house with 35 seconds remaining to lift the Rams to a 26-20 victory.
