NewCath ends a 3 day stretch of tough opponents with a 3-1 setback to the Cooper Jaguars up on the "hill" tonight.

 

Game 1 - The 1st 5 points in this one all courtesy of 4 serves out of bounds and a hit into the net. :eek: However, the Jags take a small 7-5 lead, before the Breds go on a 4-0 run to lead 9-7. That was short-lived, as Cooper ties things up at 11's. From there they go ahead 15-12 & 19-14, and the Breds would get no closer than 21-17, before the final tally of 25-18.

 

Game 2 - The Breds looked like a team on a mission, as they go up 8-3 and the Jags are forced to call a timeout to slow the Breds down. However, it didn't help as Cooper is forced to call another timeout, but by then the NewCath lead as ballooned to 17-6. :eek: With the score 23-14, the Jags chip away at the NewCath lead and draw within 5 at 23-18. The Breds are forced to call timeout to cool off the Jags, however Cooper scores the next point to cut the margin to 4. However, the Breds are the recipient of a Cooper service failure, and tally the next point on a Mikah Freepon to Haley Meyers spike to claim victory, 25-19.

 

Game 3 - It looked like the Bred were going to ride the momentum of game 2, as they race out to leads of 8-5 & 10-8, but the Jags had something to say about it. A 4-0 run has Cooper on tiop for the 1st time in this one at 12-10. It was a 2pt. game until Cooper went up 19-15 & 21-17, before the final score, the same as game 1....25-18.

 

Game 4 - The Jags kept the momentum and are up 10-4. NewCath would get close at 16-13, but Cooper stretches it's lead to 22-16 and the Breds would get no closer, before falling for the 3rd time by a score of 25-18.

 

Great hustle on the floor tonight from both teams.

 

I was thoroughly IMPRESSED with Fr. Morgan Kelly, Jr. Rebecca Ruppel & Jr. Kaity Smith. :ylsuper: All 3 of these young ladies know how to jump off the floor and hit, and I mean hit, with AUTHORITY!!! :scared: Smith was a beast!!!

 

I'm nowhere near the volleyball expert that some others on this board are, but this Cooper team is pretty damn good. All the starters are back next year, only 3 seniors on this team......and I 'm pretty sure only one of them got in tonight.

 

Breds return to action on Monday night at home against the Conner Cougars.

Sounds like Cooper might be peaking at the right time!
