Eastern Kentucky Power Rankings Week 6

10. Corbin (3A, 3-3)- The Hounds dropped their third straight game, but it was a pretty strong showing against a very good Mayfield team. As predicted Corbin struggled through a 3 game stretch of intense competition, but at the same time Corbin fans have to feel pretty good as they have shown great improvement. Jackson County should give the confidence spike needed heading into their huge war with Bell County.

9. Pikeville (1A, 4-2)- Speaking of confidence builder the Panthers put 68 on South Floyd and nursed a few bumps and bruises heading into essentially their District Championship game against Hazard. Pikeville still has to feel good about their 1A Chances and beating the #9 1A Bulldogs will only grow that.

8. Bell County (3A, 4-1)- The Bobcats put a hurting on Whitley County and their Offense continues to roll on. Bell's win over Wayne County looks better and better each week. This week they welcome a Campbell County, TN team that is 4-2 and should be a stout test.

7. North Laurel (5A, 6-0)- The Jaguars quest for perfection continues after pulling away from Harlan County late. Whitley County should challenge a Jags Defense that has had some holes at time, but 10-0 continues to appear a realistic possibility.

6. Southwestern (5A, 5-1)- Very nice statement win over a quality Montgomery County team, but the Warriors slip one spot by way of Paintsville beating the team who beat them. Warriors have a BYE and then two very winnable games and should enter their war with rival Pulaski County 7-1.

5. Paintsville (1A, 6-0)- Not since the 80's has a Paintsville team been on a such roll. The Tigers vanquished 4A Bourbon County with surprising ease. They step up in class again vs. 3A Pike Central this week.

4. Ashland (4A, 5-0)- Tomcats are rolling and now should cut through some of their District foes like melted butter. Ashland makes the short trip down US-23 against Boyd County and should continue to churn along.

3. Pulaski County (5A, 4-1)- Pulaski wasn't exactly crisp against Madison Southern, but they still found their dominance. If you are looking for some shakeup in the top of the rankings this week is the most likely. Pulaski takes on the Offensive Machine of Henry Clay and has a chance to shine.

2. Belfry (3A, 5-0)- Pirates made a statement against a talented Knoxville Catholic team that simply did not have the pieces for the Pirates' power game. Belfry travels to the #1 overall team in West Virginia and have the rare distinction of being an underdog.

1. Johnson Central (4A, 4-0)- Yawn! Johnson Central continues to navigate through the doldrums of their District. You can bet the Golden Eagle players want nothing more than for October 23rd to come around.

Trending Up:

Wayne County (4A, 4-2)- Keep an eye on the Cards. Class 4A Region 3 is not exactly a gauntlet and they are sitting pretty.

Hazard (1A, 5-1)- The Bulldogs kind of fell off the radar with a loss to Fairview, but they are suddenly on a roll. Huge game this week.

Leslie County (2A, 5-0)- The only undefeated team left in 2A the Eagles are soaring high with confidence and their District is ripe for the picking.

Trending Down:

Prestonsburg (2A, 2-3)- Not looking good in Blackcat Country. A loss at home in a key game and lots of questions being asked.

Harlan County (5A, 1-5)- The Bears are free falling as their schedule has overwhelmed them. Five losses to teams a combined 23-4.. bears need confidence in a bad way.

Rockcastle County (4A, 1-4)- Probably the biggest disappointment in EKY thusfar. Hopes were high for the Rockets but outside of a win against 1-5 South Laurel it has been ugly.

Player of the Week:

Luke Trimble- Paintsville

Trimble was a two way STUD against Bourbon County.

GAME OF THE WEEK:

Raceland (1A, 3-2) @ Lawrence County (3A, 4-1)

Two quality teams searching for a signature win and some confidence before entering their District Schedule. Both teams have some outstanding playmakers and have show promise on Defense. The Rams beat Lawrence County in 2014 by controlling the line of scrimmage, but expect Lawrence to get Timmy Dalton more involved in this meeting.
