6A Notebook 9/13/15 - Are you Buying or Selling

Featured Replies

The dust is starting to settle and we are finding more and more out each week about the 6A teams across the state of Kentucky. We are seeing the usual teams hanging around the Bluegrass Preps top 10. But the question is are they just hanging out or are they ready to stake claim to the prize. I know some of these teams still have some questions to be answered. So I have posed a few that are swirling in the minds of many 6A fans across the state.

Trinity Shamrocks are 3-1 on the season with a pair of impressive wins over two out of state powers. This past Friday they fell to Male giving up 42 points. They are averaging 39 points a game and only giving up 16 points per game. They are being led on offense by Quarterback Jacob Woosley who has thrown for over 600 yards on the season. The defense has been dominating at least until last Friday.

Are you Buying or Selling that Trinity can find a way to stop Male and pull off the playoff upset?

Male Bulldogs are 4-0 on the season knocking off defending State Champ and BGP#1 Trinity with an impressive 42-13 win. Male’s defense was very impressive in the win over Trinity. This Male defense is giving up 54 yards per game and 79 yards per game threw the air. Not to mention only 6 points per game.

Are you Buying or Selling that this Male defense is best in 6A?

Scott County suffered its first loss on the season this past Friday to Ohio power Cincinnati Elder. Scott County up until Friday dominated teams with their ground attack. Scott County has 4 running backs that have rushed for over 150 yards. With the leading rusher Keith Guy. The Scott County quarterback Josh Davis through 3 games has averaged 125 yards per game in the air with 4 touchdowns on the season.

Are you Buying or Selling that Scott County has enough offense power to beat the upper tier of 6A?

Simon Kenton has jumped out to a 4-0 start and been beating teams by an average of 33 points per game. They are doing this with an explosive ground attack led by Dillion Powell who has carried the ball 93 times for 750 yards an average of 188 yards per game. He is on pace to rush for 2000 yards. The Simon Kenton defense is only giving up 16 points per game on average. Defensively they are giving up an average of 284 yards per game.

Are you Buying or Selling that Simon Kenton can make it to the Class 6A Finals?

Manual is 3-0 on the season posting victories over a not so impressive list of teams. Their best win came in week 0 against Central. This week they will play and up and down Ballard team. The schedule on paper doesn’t look like other 6A Louisville Schools. What do we really know about Manual?

Are you Buying or Selling that Manual is among the top Tier 6A teams this season?

St. Xavier in week two had an impressive win over 5A power Bowling Green, only to turn around and lose to 3A power Central. There have been questions about the Tigers since their performance against Simon Kenton in a pre-season scrimmage. The Tigers are 2-1 on the season and seem to still have many questions left to answer.

Are you Buying or Selling that St. Xavier is a District Contender?

Ryle has started out 4-0 and has grabbed the attention of many in the land of Bluegrass Preps. They have wins over 3 typical Kentucky Powers. Last Week they defeated Highlands by 24 points. They are being led by quarterback Tanner Morgan who has thrown for over 1000 yards on the season. Defensively they have given up 24 points per game with an average winning margin of 20 points per game.

Are you Buying or Selling that Ryle has what it takes to knock off Simon Kenton?

McCracken County is 3-1 on the season and has won 3 straight games after dropping week 0 to Paducah Tilgham. This past week they knocked of Western Kentucky Power Mayfield Cardinals in overtime. New Coach Shawn Jackson seems to have this team turned in the right direction. Coach Jackson has a very talent team led by University Kentucky commit Zyaire Hughes who has a combined 478 yards rushing and receiving through 3 games.

Are you Buying or Selling that McCracken County can advance past the first round of the 6A playoffs?
