Class 5A Notebook (9-13): Holy Three-and-one Batman

Featured Replies

Holy three-and-one Batman. Their are no dominating undefeated teams in Class 5A this year like in years past, but there are some very good teams battling it out to earn their spot. And, there are some teams that are just trying to find their spot.

Bowling Green (3-1) proved they belong at number one this week by defeating one the few teams that had a rightful argument to be above them - Owensboro (3-1). The Purples take on Warren Central this week trying to stay on task after their disappointing loss to St. Xavier two weeks ago. Will anyone challenge Bowling Green the rest of the regular season? Is there anyone in their way to, well, Bowling Green?

Pulaski County (2-1) went unchallenged this week in a lopsided win. Next on the schedule, Rockcastle County. Will the Maroons have more trouble this week? Or, will it be business as usual for Pulaski County?

Owensboro (3-1) took a loss, but it was a close loss to the number one team in the class, they won’t move much in the rankings as a result. The Red Devils didn’t get the win they wanted, but they did prove there wasn’t much of a gap between them and number one. Will there be a rematch in a few months? Who has the advantage then? Can Bowling Green beat them twice in 2015?

Highlands (1-3), what to do with Highlands? Most can’t help but to think when the playoffs come around the Bluebirds will be, well, the Bluebirds. But, will they have it in them this year? They face a huge opponent this week in St. Xavier. Can Highlands show improvement this week? Can they get to a better place? Will the Bluebirds finish with a losing regular season for the first time since…………?

Anderson County (3-1) took a set back at the hands of 3A Boyle County. What will they do this week versus 4A Hopkinsville? The Bearcats are expected to be in the mix at the top of Class 5A, can they prove they belong there this week?

Southwestern (3-1) dominated an inferior opponent this week. Will they be able to do the same against a capable 3A Corbin? The Pulaski/Southwestern game still looks like another thriller, it looms in the background.

North Laurel (4-0) is still undefeated and will, more then likely, continue that trend this week. They have a weak schedule and are taking advantage of it. Will they be prepared come playoff time?

Fern Creek (3-1) is moving up in the rankings this week, and they deserve it. They are playing a tough schedule and are proving they are ready for a long run in the Class 5A playoffs. The Tigers take on a very good 2A DeSales this week, we will learn much about them Friday. Can Fern Creek solidify their ranking? Is Class 5A sleeping on Fern Creek?

Christian County (3-1) dominated this week putting up 46 points and holding their opponent scoreless. Will they be able to do the same to Hopkinsville? Is Christian County hitting their stride and reading themselves for the top of the class?

Bullitt Central (4-0) isn’t playing the murder’s row of a schedule, but they are doing what is asked of them and beating everyone on that schedule and this week shouldn’t be any different. How will Bullitt Central finish the season? Are they ready for the playoffs?

What does this week hold for Class 5A? There are a few opportunities for some upsets and some opportunities for some teams to prove they belong in the discussion for the Top 10 in this class. Who gets those big wins? Who gets exposed by a loss? What teams belong in the discussion?
