The Rankings

 

10) Garrard County (3A / 3 – 1)

The Golden Lions defeated 4A Rockcastle County this past weekend. Next up is East Jessamine at home for the Golden Lions.

9) Madison Central (6A / 3 – 1)

The Madison Central lost to Bryan Station, 50 to 20. The Indians were held to 34 yards rushing. Junior QB Zach Hardin was 10 for 19 and 170 yards with 1 TD and 1 int. This week the Indians host 3A Lexington Catholic in a game that will impact these rankings.

8) Anderson County (5A / 3 – 1)

Anderson County lost 3A Boyle County, 42 to 21. The Redhounds face another top Central Kentucky team this weekend when they go against Franklin County. On the defensive side of the ball junior linebacker Bryndon Labhart is leading the Redhounds with 24 tackles after the first 3 games. He also had 3 TFLs and 2 sacks going into the Boyle game.

7) Danville (2A / 3 – 1)

The Admirals beat a 3A Corbin team that came into the contest undefeated this season and on a three game winning streak. Danville shut out the Redhounds on their own turf. Junior quarterback Zach Dampier has been the main catalyst to the Admirals pass oriented offense. Next up – 2A Green County.

6) Lexington Christian (2A / 4 – 0)

The Lexington Christian Eagles are flying high again with a big win over Estill County that past weekend with a score of 62 to 33. A pair of sophomores lead the Eagle offensive attack. Brayden Miller is the QB and the leading rusher is Dillon Wheatley. This week, the Eagles host 2A Walton-Verona.

5) Lafayette (6A / 3 – 1)

The Generals beat a down 6A Boone County at home this week, 56 – 7. But next up for the Generals is Scott County in a game that has no impact on district standings but will provide insight into how these two teams should do in the post season. Junior quarterback Walter Wood and junior running back Quinton Brown have been the make play makers on offense for the Generals. But senior kick return specialist Mason Alstatt can make thing happen on special teams. After three games he averages 70.9 yards per kickoff return and had taken 4 of his 7 kick returns to the house. Alstatt also has a handful of rushes and receptions and was leading the Generals in average all-purpose yard going into this past week’s game.

4) Franklin County (4A / 4 – 0 )

As expected the Flyers won the local rivalry game over a down Frankfort squad, 40 to 15. The Flyers host 5A Anderson County Friday in a game that will have impact on these rankings.

3) Bryan Station (6A / 3 – 1)

The Defenders defeated Madison Central 50 to 20. Sophomore Andre Davis has been the Defenders offensive engine this season. As the quarterback he had thrown for 9 TDs and over 200 yards a game. He also is the leading the rusher averaging 82 yards a game. Next up is 6A Meade County, who is 2-2.

2) Boyle County (3A / 4 – 0)

The Rebels beat Anderson County this week 42 – 21. Josiah Robbins had another impressive week with 225 yards passing, 2 passing TDs, no picks and added 2 rushing TDs. Mr. Robbins has to be in the Mr. Football talk at this point. Next up for Boyle County is 4A 2-1 Collins

1) Scott County (6A / 3 – 1)

The Cardinals suffered their first loss of the season, 35 – 17 when they took on Elder north of the Ohio. But that will not cost the Cardinals the top spot. Going into the Elder game Cardinals sophomore quarter back Josh Davis was 17-21 with four TDs and no interceptions. His favorite target is freshman receiver Glenn Covington. Covington has 13 receptions in the first 3 games for an average of over 70 yards a game. Next up – Lafayette at Lafayette.

 

Big Movers

The 2A teams move up this week. Lexington Christian keeps winning strong. And Danville shuts out a 3-0 Corbin team at Corbin.

 

Anderson County and Madison Central were man-handled in their losses and the slide some but stay on the list. Lafayette moves up on these two moving down, not their easy win over a struggling Boone County.

 

In the Wings / Honorable Mention

Lexington Catholic and Henry Clay continue to be the first two out. LexCath did win over 5A CovCath and the Knights do have a win over 6A Boone. The problem is that both of these Knight opponents are winless so far, so there is no argument for a solid ‘quality win’ yet. And, very unfortunately, the Knights junior QB Legend Brumbaugh suffered an broken collar bone and will out for at least some time. The Knights turn to junior Kirk Fagot and senior Andy Thompson at the QB position for now.

 

Henry Clay did barely beat Tates Creek – 70 to 64. Defense anyone? Especially with a D1 DB on the squad.

 

Woodford County evened up their record to 2 and 2 winning over Marion County. If they beat Madison Central and Anderson County – they may show up above.

 

5A Montgomery County has reeled off 3 wins after dropping their home opener. They are 3 and 1.

 

Bourbon County slide to a 1-2 record.

 

In the small-ball category 1A Paris is now 4 – 0 and 1A Nicholas County is 3 – 1.

 

Game of the Week

Scott County (6A #1 ) vs Lafayette (6A #5), September 18, 7:30. Lafayette High School.

Another heavy weight contest is the game of the week. Does Scott County bounce back after the loss to Elder? Can Lafayette show they are a top 6A team? If Lafayette gets the upset at home do they become the new Lex/CKY #1 ?

 

Other key games that will have impact on these rankings include LexCath at Madison Central and Anderson County at Franklin County.

He HAS to be in the mix. To me he is the front runner. There is no one who does more for his team. I think he is undervalued by the media but anyone around the program knows his value. I have heard that he is the best option they have at Wideout too but he is needed more at QB.
