6A Notebook

The 2015 Kentucky High School football season kicked off with a lot of excitement across the state. We had our typical blowouts and a few nail biters. We even had a few last minute heroics.

But the talk of 6A football in Kentucky is Cooper and their dominating win over Highlands. Cooper picked up the biggest win of their program Friday night and has become the talk of NKY football. Cooper was led by their QB Nathan Brown you went 7 of 18 for 186 yards with 2 touchdowns. Question for Cooper coaching staff this week, can they get refocused as they travel to take on 2A power Newport Central Catholic this Friday.

The Shamrocks of Trinity picked up and impressive win at home against Ensworth, Tn. Last season the Trinity lost to Ensworth by 7 points. What a difference a year makes Trinity used the running clock in the 4th quarter to pick up win number one on the season with a 45-0 victory. Senior Rodjay Burns had a big night on both sides of the ball to help lead the Rocks to victory.

Male showed they are ready to make claim to being the best 6A team in the state with a shut out win over Floyd Central, IN. QB Hayden Shelton had a very good night he was 12 of 18 for 252 yards and 3 touchdowns. Male had 13 different kids catch a pass from one of their quarterbacks on Friday night. They did a great job of sharing the wealth. This week it will be a little tougher as Male will travel to play Ballard in the cities biggest game of the week.

Manual picked up a good win over a scrappy Central team. They trailed by 10 point early but went on to score 28 straight points. Manual will take on 5A Fern Creek this week.

Scott County picks up a win by beating Tates Creek 46-6. As usual they did it on the ground by rushing for 341 yards using 8 different ball carriers. The Cardinal defense was stout holding Tates Creek to negative 35 yards on the night. This week Scott County plays host to Pulaski County. Pulaski will bring their wide open offense looking to upset Scott County.

Bryan Station shut out Knox Central to pick up a week zero win. All eyes will be on the Defenders this week as they will host Simon Kenton. Simon Kenton defeated Christian Academy of Louisville this week. They struggled early to gain control of Cal. But had a big 4th quarter to run away with a victory. Should be a good test for both teams this Friday in Lexington.

Lafayette gets a win Friday night defeating Dunbar. Generals was able to have their way with Dunbar. This week they will travel to Boyle County to take on 4A Mercer County. Will the Generals get caught looking ahead?

McCracken County took a tough loss Friday. The played a very talented Paducah Tilghman team. That is definitely not a team that new Coach Shawn Jackson wanted to start the season with. They will try to bounce back this week against 4A Warren Central.

Ryle made some noise this week with their win over Covington Catholic. Looks as if NKY 6A football seems to have things going in the right direction. Ryle will travel to take on Lexington Catholic this coming Friday. Another early test for the Raiders.

A lot of good football was played this week in 6A. Based on the schedule it will only get better. Who will be the talk of the Class this coming week?
