Providence (IN) beats Mercy

No real details as I wasn't there, but Mercy loses in straight sets to Providence 25-15 25-23 26-24. Looks like they could score tonight, which should be the biggest issue this season, but they couldn't keep Providence from doing the same.

Not to take anything away from

Providence, which is a solid team, but If the Jags can't beat Providence, the outlook isn't good when it comes to Assumption, NDA & Sacred Heart. I'm sticking with Sacred Heart and NDA to take it all this year.

I was there. Mercy didn't play mercy ball. Simple as that. Still adjusting to new teammates and coach. Burke out with ankle injury. They will be fine but they will experience bumps and bruises along the way. All learning experiences. Watch out come tournament time.

What people are not saying is that Mercy lost a ton last year. When you lose the state player of the year, your libero, a legit D1 middle, one of your setters, and your L2, you are going to have some ground to make up. It's not always as easy to just "re-load"

I hope Coach Thomerson can turn it around because he is in a tough spot, if he wins, he won with Todd's players, if he loses, he isnt a good coach.

Clearly, Mercy was out of step last night. Mistakes were made by younger players as can be expected but some of the seasoned players also found themselves playing below standard last night. It happens. There is a lot of top talent on this team and it will take some time to blend it into a volleyball team. Last year's team had down games at times too. However, their down games were still better than most other teams best games. That's not the case yet with this young team. This team has champions on it and they will not settle for mediocre play like last night.

One of the two. Need to see some game action before making a choice. Assumption basically the same team as last year. Stellar backrow and so-so frontline offense. Mercy lost a ton and will need to regroup. Sacred Heart and NDA were both good last year and both kept a solid core of their main players. I will have to stay riding the fence for a bit.
