It was more of a struggle than it should have been, but in the end the Lady 'Stangs found a way to win their biggest game of the year advancing to the semifinals of the Touchstone Energy 10th Region All “A” Classic beating Nicholas County 6-5 at Alexandria Community Park.

Brossart will host semifinals next Saturday playing at 11 AM.

The Lady Jackets scored first in the first inning when Dani Johnson knocked home Sydney Fryman with a double to left center to make it 1-0.

In the bottom of the first Ashley Childress led off the game with a long double to left and later scored on a rope line drive shot to center by Amanda Lloyd to tie it 1-1. Nicholas briefly took the lead back in the third when Fryman walked and then scored on an infield groundoutBrossart.

In the bottom of the third the 'Stangs took the lead for good when Childress and Amanda Graus raced home on an error to make it 3-2. They increased their lead to 6-2 with a big three run fourth when Macy Griffin singled and Ashley Childressn walked and then following a wild pitch raced home on a two run single by Lloyd. Graus, who had walked and was now on third raced home with the sixth run when Nicholas pitcher Jonna Watkins threw a wild pitch while attempting to award Katelyn Seiter an intentional walk.

Nicholas got one back in the sixth when Samantha Sowell singled home Trina Hughes to make it 6-3.

In the top of the seventh Fryman opened with a single before Jacket star Megan Bretz was retired on a popup to Lloyd. Hughes Coldiron and Johnson followed with singles to cut it to 6-5 with the potential tying and winning runs on base.

Pitcher Karlie Shackelford enticed Mary Kate Tolliver to line out to the mound for out number 2 and then struck out her counterpart Watkins to end the game and send her team to the next round.

Brossart is now 8-3 on the year while Nicholas Co. falls to 5-6. The Lady 'Stangs left 10 runners on base.

The Lady 'Stangs are now off til Monday for Easter Break when they travel to Calvary Christian for a 37th District seed game. They play Mason Co. and Walton-Verona next week before the All A semis next Saturday at home

Tonight I seen balls dropped, girls not focusing on game at all, girls swinging at horrible pitches, horrible baserunning, you name it we did it. When you come away with a win in a game like that, be THANKFUL! :puke:
