Matman1 Posted April 7, 2006 Posted April 7, 2006 Pike Centrals wrestling team was distroyed by the former administrator due the fact that the former adiminsrtator had a personal vendatta against the former head coach. Now the new administrator has stated that he does not like the path the program is going and wants the coach back. He stated " Since I now have full control of the school now" I want the former head coach back. He fails to realize that with no mat there can not be a program and since the Pike County AD (A, Casey) went back on his promise to purchase a new mat many see the program finally dying out completely. The former head coach has had chances of moving to other schools but his heart is at PC since he started the program there. Has anyone heard anyhting?
melon Posted April 11, 2006 Posted April 11, 2006 Matman, I have not heard anything to that effect. I think it is wrong to hold the current coaches responsible for the mess left by the previous coach. From what I saw these guys stepped in and tried to prevent the kids from losing a sport they had worked very hard at. Because of knee jerk reactions to title IX and the fact that the wrestling doesn't generate much if any revenue, a sport like wrestling can't afford the grandstanding and battles with Administrators that occured at PCC. PCC wrestling may need a different coach but the old coach is not the answer. And yes I do realize just how close you are to the former coach:sssh:
Matman1 Posted April 12, 2006 Author Posted April 12, 2006 Melon Remember this quote: "Don't pass judgement until you walk in that persons shoes" No one holds the current coach (use the singular when speaking of the coach) responsible for the condition the program is in. Even though one is actually trying and the other was just getting paid for doing nothing. And the term GRANDSTANDING that you use sounds like a personal attack on the former coach. Lets call it ATTRACTING ATTENTION to a sport that was successful and still recieved no cooperation from the former administration. And when you stated "fact that the wrestling doesn't generate much if any revenue, a sport like wrestling can't afford the grandstanding and battles with Administrators that occured at PCC." it seems that you are saying that a coach should lay down and take it and make no waves in their supprt for his/her athletes in fear of the administration punishment. And if you really have walked in this persons shoes then you would have the knowledge of the title IX issue. Read TITLE IX and maybe you can understand and have a different perspective of the situtation. And yes maybe the former coach should leave welll enough alone, that seems to be the way it is done in pike county. But he has a differnt mind set then the Good old Boys, if you really know him. And in closing you should also ask some the wrestlers at the school who they want to coach them. And thats all I have to say about that!
melon Posted May 11, 2006 Posted May 11, 2006 Melon Remember this quote: "Don't pass judgement until you walk in that persons shoes" No one holds the current coach (use the singular when speaking of the coach) responsible for the condition the program is in. I consider anyone who works with a team or an individual to be a coach. Whether they are paid or are a volunteer I will still address them as a coach. In previous posts you have been very disparaging toward the indivduals involved with that program. You may want to reread your own quote. Even though one is actually trying and the other was just getting paid for doing nothing. See above point. And the term GRANDSTANDING that you use sounds like a personal attack on the former coach. Lets call it ATTRACTING ATTENTION to a sport that was successful and still recieved no cooperation from the former administration. Call it what you will it still means the same thing. I would never suggest a coach not stand up for thier kids. What a coach has to realize is that sometimes they can do more harm than good to the kids they are trying to stand up for by constantly "ATTRACTING ATTENTION" to themselves. And if you really have walked in this persons shoes then you would have the knowledge of the title IX issue. Read TITLE IX and maybe you can understand and have a different perspective of the situtation. I wasn't refering to Title IX for what it was trying to accomplish, I was refering to the misguided application (the knee jerk comment) of the atricle by some administrators. And yes maybe the former coach should leave welll enough alone, that seems to be the way it is done in pike county. But he has a differnt mind set then the Good old Boys, if you really know him. And in closing you should also ask some the wrestlers at the school who they want to coach them. And thats all I have to say about that! When I played ball in school I thought one of my coaches was the greatest thing in the world. Years later I coached with him and realized that there was no way a child of mine would ever play for this man. I'm not saying that this is the case here, but I am saying that kids this age don't always know what is best for them.
