Some have coined this game as the battle of AAU teams as many Louisville Legend AAU players attend Waggener while the Fern Creek team has three freshmen starters from the 2018 AAU Kentucky Gators team in addition to several other freshmen from that team who will see action. Recently Fern Creek has went to their bench playing two additional freshmen meaningful minutes in addition to the three whom are starting. At times, you will look out and see four freshmen on the court which just seems almost unbelievable that would be happening and yet they are still winning games.

 

However, both teams have other players who do not play for those programs and it would be unfair to assign that label to this game. In fact, one Fern Creek player, Tony Washington, actually has played for the Louisville Legends and formerly attended Waggener. This is a match-up of teams with identical 12-7 overall records. The Waggener club is older and was projected to contend in the 7th region while the Fern Creek team is projected to take another season or two to challenge for the 6th region crown. After a slow start Waggener has quietly won 8 out of their last 10 games. Fern Creek meanwhile has won 6 out of their last 8 games. I suggest the game will have considerable amount of emotion and spirited action that will come down to who executes at the end while keeping their emotions in check.

This is a weird game to pick. Waggener doesn't have the coaching to take their guys to the next level (unless is comes from behind the bench). But this match up provides intrigue because of the number of AAU players represented. but given the size that Waggener has, I pick them by 5.
