Garrett leads Lady Panthers to win over Saints

MOUNT OLIVET | Behind Dana Garrett’s 18 points, Augusta (9-5, 2-2) defeated St. Patrick 55-25 in the quarterfinals round of the 10th Region All “A” Tournament.

 

The Lady Panthers jumped out to an 18-0 lead and looked to cruise past the Lady Saints (2-11, 0-3) in the first quarter. St. Patrick didn’t score until the last three minutes when Arley Gutierrez nailed a 3-pointer from the wing. Kathleen Estill put in a layup before time expired to cut Augusta’s lead to 13.

 

In the second quarter, the Lady Panthers kept a double-digit lead, thanks to Jerica Kelsch, who connected on a running floater, followed by two foul shots. Samantha Kennard and Garrett scored the team’s final four points and went into halftime up 34-17.

The Lady Saints were only able to muster a total of eight points in the second half. Estill led St. Patrick in scoring with 10.

 

Kennard and Kelsch had 10 points apiece for the Lady Panthers. Augusta will face Bracken County Thursday at 6 p.m. in the semifinals round.
