Huge district win for the Lady Cards!!!!

Lady Cards earn first district victory of season

 

 

Both teams played timid in the opening half, with the Lady Colonels holding a 17-16 advantage at the break.

 

In the second half, it was all Clark, as the Lady Cardinals (8-6) pulled away down the stretch to get the win. Sandra Skinner sparked Clark’s attack in the second half, scoring 19 points. The Virginia Commonwealth signee finished with 23 points and 22 rebounds. Graham said Skinner’s effort in the second half were her best two quarters of the season.

 

“She got a little frustrated in the first half, but in the second half, she came out and dominated the glass and played a lot better,” Graham said. “Every ball that went up there, she just about got every one of them it seemed like. It was very impressive, her best half of the year.”

 

Sydney Anderson followed Skinner with 15 points and knocked down four 3-pointers. Lauren Welsh rounded out three players in double figures with 10 points.

 

Bourbon County senior and Tennessee State commit Asia Sims paced the Lady Colonels with 29 points, including 22 in the second half.

 

“We knew going in, she leads (the team) in nearly every category, she is just a good player,” Graham said. “We knew she was going to have a good night, but we didn’t want her to

have a career night. She’s a heck of player. I didn’t want to pick up the paper and read where she had 45 or a career high against us. We just limited her touches and challenged her shots and keep her off the glass as much as we could, but good players are going to score. She’s a good player and she got her points.”

 

Graham said the district opener was a “huge win for us.”

 

“It’s good to get a win on the road,” he said. “It helps our confidence.”
