No way was Russell senior Bronson Korzep going to leave the field Friday night without his team ending an eight-year drought between region championships.

 

Korzep, who has been quietly playing with an ailing shoulder since early in the season, put the Red Devils on his back in the Class 3A Region 3 final at Henry R. Evans Stadium.

 

The linebacker/fullback stopped four separate Bourbon County drives that reached Russell territory and also rushed for 111 yards in the Red Devils’ 17-7 win.

 

“I couldn’t feel anything except adrenaline,” Korzep said. “There’s nothing you can do but go out and play. No excuses. I never want to let my team down.”
