Ram Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 VIDEO: Rams steady in getting by Paintsville, 32-21 By MATTHEW SPARKS For The Independent RACELAND In 88 years of Raceland football, the Rams have never hosted a state semifinal. Get your parking spot along U.S. 23 early because history will be made Friday night. Back in October, Raceland defeated Paintsville 32-0 for its second consecutive district title. One month later, with the stakes even higher, the Rams proved the sequel could be just as good as the original with a 32-21 victory over the Tigers for back-to-back region championships for the first time in school history. “I just really proud of our kids,” Raceland coach Michael Salmons said. “They came to work every day and for them to get this accomplishment speaks well of their character. Our kids are still hungry. We are going to try and do this two more times if we can. I am really glad for our community and the big crowd here tonight. Our kids are really excited to be advancing on in the playoffs.” Senior Josh Young ran for 139 yards and two touchdowns to propel the Rams into a rematch with Williamburg on Friday night with a berth in the state championship game in Bowling Green on the line. The Yellow Jackets defeated the Rams, 34-7, in the state semifinal round last season. Link
