Berea is in a tough situation but not a hopeless one. District 44 is a challenge for them to compete in especially being a smaller school. Central and Southern will control the District most years. Of course with Central's recent dominance, Berea is not a factor.

This year's version of the Pirates will be a year older so hopefully that will help. Another year of maturity and skill development will help the Pirates.

In the long run I think it will take a special system to be implemented to make Berea a legitimate player in District 44. Most years Berea is not going to have the talent level of the others but a special system may make up for the disparities. Of course the system would need to be implemented all the way to the youth program. If that could happen and a couple Southern kids buy into that system and move in. Berea could be a solid program.

Any updated on how the Pirates have looked in the pre-season? Berea needs to have a little success early in the season to build some confidence. I'm hoping that scrimmages have been productive. I'm looking forward to marked improvement from BHS this year.

The Pirates are off to a solid start at 2-2. They won their season opener against Red Bird by 20+ but dropping two on Saturday. Last night's win against Bath County is a good win for the Pirates. Has anybody seem them in person and can give a first hand account of their progress?
